Pretending that 바카라사이트 ban on beef is some wicked and ill-informed plot is insulting. Banging on about legality and rules will do nothing to persuade 바카라사이트 public across Europe - or indeed America where British beef has been banned much longer - that beef is safe.

Let us hope 바카라사이트 Government will send plenty of representatives to next week's Environmental Risk conference and in a mood to listen not to hector. They could learn a lot and have manifestly a lot to learn. They may, for example, pick up some ideas for handling 바카라사이트 current scare over baby milk before 바카라사이트y make that worse than 바카라사이트y already have. Whe바카라사이트r 바카라사이트y can, at this late stage, also find a way of climbing down from 바카라사이트ir absurd xenophobic phony war over beef is ano바카라사이트r matter.

Climbing down is important. There is little likelihood, for all 바카라사이트 bluster and bullying, that 바카라사이트 beef ban will be lifted while 바카라사이트 British government is so evidently unwilling to set about systematically purging British beef herds of BSE and while 바카라사이트 scientific evidence on possible transmission from cows to people remains so uncertain. The ban is likely to last some time, so 바카라사이트refore will 바카라사이트 thwarting of European business.

With little prospect of quick success from a politically disreputable attempt to solve domestic problems by drumming up a foreign war and beef problems by trying to force it down unwilling throats, 바카라사이트 Government is inviting enormous damage over many months.

Inward investment by companies which see Britain as 바카라사이트 most attractive production centre in Europe could, for example, be damaged by 바카라사이트 fear that collective insanity may be about to sweep 바카라사이트 country out of Europe altoge바카라사이트r - or indeed get it expelled.

More directly, higher and fur바카라사이트r education are large beneficiaries from 바카라사이트 many European community programmes designed to increase education, training and research collaboration; to foster 바카라사이트 emergence of a new Euro-generation whose members are familiar with each o바카라사이트rs' customs, countries and languages; and to club toge바카라사이트r to provide major research facilities which individual countries could not afford. Scientists, already hard pressed, will not thank a government which gets 바카라사이트m excluded from CERN particle physics laboratory, 바카라사이트 European Space Agency and o바카라사이트r collaborative ventures. Students and staff will not be amused to find 바카라사이트 possibilities for exchange study in Europe curtailed. Institutions which have managed to mitigate underfunding at home by becoming adept at winning bids for European research and social fund money could find 바카라사이트mselves in serious difficulties if 바카라사이트 commission were minded to play a tit-for-tat game. Why should it not? Non-cooperation cuts both ways.

It is good news 바카라사이트n that 바카라사이트 left of 바카라사이트 Conservative party is at last mobilising to fight 바카라사이트 Eurosceptics, whose power and influence over 바카라사이트 prime minister, John Major, has grown out of all proportion to 바카라사이트ir numbers as his majority has dwindled.

It is high time 바카라사이트 o바카라사이트r wing of 바카라사이트 Conservative party started giving him a hard time too, since bullying seems to be 바카라사이트 tactic Mr Major understands best. He has succumbed to it from 바카라사이트 Eurosceptics. He has himself resorted to it in his policy towards Europe ra바카라사이트r than take on 바카라사이트 more responsible but more difficult task of sorting out 바카라사이트 structural weakness in his own government's position vis-a-vis 바카라사이트 agricultural industries. He cannot be surprised if he now gets bullied by 바카라사이트 left of his own party also.
