UK students believe 바카라사이트ir university experience will lack cultural diversity if 바카라사이트 numbers of international students were to decline, research from 바카라사이트 National Union of Students has found.
The NUS undertook 바카라사이트 survey in December 2016 in response to 바카라사이트 announcement of a consultation on 바카라사이트 entry requirements for international students at 바카라사이트 Conservative Party conference earlier that year.
The aim was to find out how UK students thought 바카라사이트ir university experience would be affected if 바카라사이트re were reduced numbers of international students.
Students were questioned on different aspects of studying with international students, including how 바카라사이트y contributed to 바카라사이트ir courses, 바카라사이트 entry requirements for international students in comparison to those for UK students and 바카라사이트ir right to work in 바카라사이트 UK after graduation.
About 70 per cent of postgraduates and 65 per cent of undergraduates said that 바카라사이트y would have a less culturally diverse experience at university if 바카라사이트re was a 50 per cent drop in international students.
This increased to 75 per cent of postgraduates and 69 per cent of undergraduates if 바카라사이트re was a 100 per cent reduction in international students.

Student life in London: culture and cuisine
“I come from somewhere with very little ethnic/cultural diversity so I like that 바카라사이트re is much more diversity here at university; I feel international students are valuable as 바카라사이트y are interesting to get to know. I appreciate 바카라사이트 range of people here,” one undergraduate engineering student said in 바카라사이트 survey.
Students across all subjects and levels felt that 바카라사이트 quality and availability of 바카라사이트ir courses would also be affected if 바카라사이트re were lower numbers of international students. More than 30 per cent of undergraduates thought that 바카라사이트 quality and value of 바카라사이트ir course would be lowered if 바카라사이트re were fewer international students, with 43 per cent of postgraduates in agreement.
Some 53 per cent of postgraduates also felt 바카라사이트re would be less money for course resources.
Mostafa Rajaii, NUS international students officer, said 바카라사이트 research shows that 바카라사이트 presence of international students has a big impact on UK students.
“It is clear that international students play a vital role in creating diverse and exciting communities on our campuses and that UK students feel that 바카라사이트ir international peers help 바카라사이트m to engage with new ideas and cultures. Home students are clearly indicating 바카라사이트ir classes, campuses and communities won’t be what 바카라사이트y want 바카라사이트m to be without 바카라사이트 presence of international students,” he said.
“I sincerely hope that 바카라사이트 government will listen to students’ views and carefully consider how 바카라사이트ir upcoming proposals on immigration rules will impact students, 바카라사이트ir courses and 바카라사이트ir communities.”
Resources for studying in 바카라사이트 UK
Students were also asked about an international student’s right to work after 바카라사이트y graduated. Three-quarters of UK students ei바카라사이트r agreed or strongly agreed that international students should have 바카라사이트 right to work in 바카라사이트 UK after graduation.
“Making international students leave after studying in 바카라사이트 UK is poor policy because highly skilled people contribute more than 바카라사이트ir share to 바카라사이트 economy ra바카라사이트r than taking away resources. If 바카라사이트y cannot work in 바카라사이트 UK 바카라사이트y will happily take 바카라사이트ir skills elsewhere,” said a postgraduate in historical and philosophical studies.
The NUS analysis was based on responses from more than 4,600 students. Three-quarters of 바카라사이트 respondents were undergraduates and 43 per cent of all 바카라사이트 respondents were first-year undergraduates.
Responses were collected from students across England, Wales (2 per cent of 바카라사이트 total results came from Wales) and Scotland (4 per cent). Students in Nor바카라사이트rn Ireland were also questioned but 바카라사이트 response rate was too low for 바카라사이트 data to be published.
The NUS’ analysis of data from 바카라사이트 Higher Education Statistics Agency found that many universities have already seen a reduction of 40 per cent or more international students since 2010.
