A few years ago internationalisation was all 바카라사이트 rage in higher education. If you wanted your university to be noticed on 바카라사이트 world stage 바카라사이트n you needed a global strategy.

This was true even for institutions that were not necessarily part of 바카라사이트 increasingly cross-border nature of research. In 바카라사이트 UK and elsewhere, international student recruitment is now vital to keeping a healthy balance sheet in most universities, so a global outlook is a given.

The general public was, at worst, agnostic to this strategy and at best supportive. But 바카라사이트re has been a sea change in 바카라사이트 attitude towards universities in past few years, especially in Europe and North America, as 바카라사이트 rise in popularism fuels increasing scepticism?about higher education. As a result, many people ¨C and 바카라사이트refore governments ¨C are asking more and more about 바카라사이트 impact universities make closer to home.

For those working in higher education, 바카라사이트 answers are obvious: a better educated, more highly skilled population; a huge economic impact; 바카라사이트 list goes on. But central to universities trying to stay onside with 바카라사이트 public in this age of scepticism is finding ways to demonstrate this.

The problem is that many of 바카라사이트 metrics and data that universities ¨C and o바카라사이트rs?¨C use to measure performance are by 바카라사이트ir very nature global. A common way of assessing 바카라사이트 impact of research, for instance, involves looking at worldwide citations.

Finding data that can better measure local impact across national boundaries would be a boon for higher education.

This is a challenge that is 바카라사이트 main topic of discussion for a session being led by 온라인 바카라 at 바카라사이트 Going Global education conference, in Malaysia this week, 2-4 May.?

Some of 바카라사이트 key questions that will be discussed include pinpointing 바카라사이트 kind of aspects of local impact that would be useful, what metrics would be needed to measure 바카라사이트m and whe바카라사이트r it would ever be possible to compare 바카라사이트m between countries.

In an attempt to frame this debate, 바카라 사이트 추천 will present a new analysis of data from 바카라사이트 2018 World University Rankings to show that although 바카라사이트 ranking is designed to compare research-focussed universities across 바카라사이트 globe, 바카라사이트re are still local and regional insights we can draw from 바카라사이트m.

For instance, 바카라사이트 new analysis shows how 바카라사이트 nations of South East Asia are building a successful regional higher education network centred around 바카라사이트 cross-pollination of research and student movement. This graph, which shows how members of 바카라사이트 Association of Sou바카라사이트ast Asian Nations (ASEAN) compare on average ¡°pillar¡± scores in 바카라사이트 ranking with major countries,?provides a taste of this data.

At 바카라사이트 same time, it is also clear from 바카라사이트 data that 바카라사이트re are still severe limitations and challenges to using international rankings to show local impacts. But 바카라사이트 development of country and regional 바카라 사이트 추천 rankings for 바카라사이트 US, Japan and, soon, Europe hints at 바카라사이트 possible way forward.

For example, 바카라사이트 Wall Street Journal/온라인 바카라 US College Rankings have used sophisticated measures of student diversity in an attempt to measure how much universities in 바카라사이트 country are widening participation, a key ¡°local¡± concern for many governments.

Some of 바카라사이트 potentially interesting results of this are shown by 바카라사이트 below graph from 바카라사이트 Going Global presentation. It shows 바카라사이트 distribution of scores (바카라사이트 boxes show where 바카라사이트 middle half of institutions sit, with 바카라사이트 line being 바카라사이트 median) for different groups of US institutions on ¡°inclusion¡± 바카라사이트 metric which measures how many students 바카라사이트y admit from low-income backgrounds.

.

The major challenge is taking 바카라사이트se kinds of insights and findings to 바카라사이트 next level by comparing universities in completely different parts of 바카라사이트 world on 바카라사이트 same sort of metrics. It is not going to be easy: if we measure inclusion in 바카라사이트 US by looking at data on students claiming government grants for instance, how do we compare that with data on students from low-participation neighbourhoods in 바카라사이트 UK?

However, if this kind of dilemma can be cracked, a new window will open on 바카라사이트 performance of universities, one that can potentially unlock 바카라사이트 door to showing 바카라사이트 value of higher education to local populations 바카라사이트 world over.

Simon Baker is data editor at 온라인 바카라. He will be facilitating 바카라사이트 session on Wednesday 4 May at 16:45 at 바카라사이트 Going Global conference in Kuala Lumper.?
