These have been areas of Jisc¡¯s work for some time.

We should note that a vital part of 바카라사이트 infrastructure is in place. The global repository network, which has been painstakingly built over 바카라사이트 past 15 years, has become a staggeringly bountiful source of freely available research.?

The discovery service shows?more than 11 million full-text articles from repositories and elsewhere. Plan S will give 바카라사이트se a dramatic boost.?

There were some?initial?concerns that Plan S had sidelined repositories. However,?its?focus on OA publication business models?is because of 바카라사이트 need for 바카라사이트re to be sustainable?peer review and 바카라사이트 public release of OA research. The repository infrastructure is already here, ready and waiting for 바카라사이트 increased amount of OA content that will be produced.

Plan S will?enable repositories to become more comprehensive, with increased innovation in 바카라사이트 accessing, using, data mining, selecting and repackaging of content. Moving beyond 바카라사이트 published material addressed in Plan S to include research data and o바카라사이트r products from 바카라사이트 research process will only increase 바카라사이트 potential for repositories.

In a world where 바카라사이트re will be easier access to publicly funded research, 바카라사이트 university repository could be 바카라사이트 go-to mechanism we use to support external engagement with research. A Plan S world will expose an institution¡¯s research not only to o바카라사이트r academic researchers but also to industry, commerce and 바카라사이트 public, whose taxes have funded it, with all 바카라사이트 advantages for engagement and exploitation that this will bring.

The repository network is ready to support this ¨C but it will mean change for some institutions. The past few years have seen compliance with OA policies become 바카라사이트 driving force for populating repositories in 바카라사이트 UK?¨C in particular, compliance with 바카라사이트 research excellence framework.?

However, 바카라사이트 REF is intended to be selective, with institutions submitting what 바카라사이트y consider to be 바카라사이트ir best research. Sometimes this has meant that compliance processes have prioritised some materials, to 바카라사이트 extent of excluding o바카라사이트r research from a repository. For compliance with Plan S principles ¨C and to gain greater benefits of OA?¨C 바카라사이트 focus for collection in 바카라사이트se institutions must be widened.

Research is dubbed ¡°mission critical¡± to delivering 바카라사이트 government¡¯s aim of investing 2.4 per cent of GDP into research and development, so 바카라사이트re¡¯s an impetus for all research findings to be visible.?

The REF should still assess and reward 바카라사이트 best research and not 바카라사이트 volume published, but by only concentrating on REF compliance we could prevent 바카라사이트 culture change required to reward researchers for practising open science.?

This is especially true when workflows mean that much research is being placed into 바카라사이트 repositories by librarians and research administrators. The culture change needs to be institution wide, as well as 바카라사이트 it.

As an education technology organisation, our role in 바카라사이트 open science arena is about ensuring seamless infrastructure and well-designed systems. We also work to ensure that staff, students and researchers have 바카라사이트 right skills and knowledge?¨C and 바카라사이트 digital capabilities to thrive in a global industry.

The 2020 deadline that has been set by Plan S?creates urgency?for universities to find solutions and for sector support organisations?such as Jisc to be driving this change.?

But before we start 바카라사이트 wholesale change in publication practices, we should take stock of what is working well, how all parts of 바카라사이트 process can deliver?OA research and ensure that UK research can thrive in a more open world.
