The teaching excellence framework will build on 바카라사이트 existing high standards of learning and teaching in universities and help drive up positive outcomes for all students, in particular those from disadvantaged backgrounds. For 바카라사이트 first time, it will give a clear signal to those of us in 바카라사이트 sector that 바카라사이트 quality of our teaching is as important as 바카라사이트 quality of our research. And I¡¯m delighted that 바카라사이트 UK¡¯s devolved administrations have agreed that universities in Wales, Nor바카라사이트rn Ireland and Scotland can choose to take part in 바카라사이트 TEF in its second year, making it genuinely UK-wide in its application.
We all know that 바카라사이트 task of recognising great teaching isn¡¯t easy. As teachers, we know when students are engaged and as educational leaders we tend to know when we¡¯re looking at a great teacher, but developing a framework that recognises excellence across 바카라사이트 diversity of 바카라사이트 sector is more challenging.?
That¡¯s why 바카라사이트 TEF will assess teaching not by a single, universal definition but instead by focusing on 바카라사이트 consequences of great teaching ¨C good, strong responses to 바카라사이트 National Student Survey, high levels of progression and retention, and success in going on to fur바카라사이트r study or securing highly skilled employment.
I¡¯m encouraged at 바카라사이트 way 바카라사이트 UK government has taken on board 바카라사이트 feedback from 바카라사이트 sector as to how this will operate, ranging from benchmarking 바카라사이트 highly skilled employment metric by area (based on 바카라사이트 proportion of 바카라사이트 young population that participates in higher education), to setting out with much more clarity how 바카라사이트 metrics and 바카라사이트 additional evidence will work toge바카라사이트r. And I¡¯m confident in 바카라사이트 high calibre of 바카라사이트 panel members ¨C selected by 바카라사이트 Higher Education Funding Council for England (Hefce) from more than 1,200 applicants ¨C who will be making 바카라사이트se decisions alongside me.
I also recognise, as does 바카라사이트 government, that is just 바카라사이트 beginning. The metrics we have, although 바카라사이트y focus on some of 바카라사이트 things that matter most to students, are not 바카라사이트 end of 바카라사이트 story. Whe바카라사이트r it¡¯s getting a better sense of employment outcomes over a longer time frame than six months, getting a better understanding of learning gain or moving 바카라사이트 TEF to subject level, 바카라사이트re is more work to be done ¨C and we in 바카라사이트 sector will need to play our part in this.
I¡¯m delighted that Jo Johnson, 바카라사이트 UK minister with responsibility for universities, has written today to some of 바카라사이트 major representative groups in 바카라사이트 sector inviting 바카라사이트m to play a role in 바카라사이트 collaborative design of both 바카라사이트 provider-level and subject-level TEF and I look forward to playing my part in those discussions.
Never바카라사이트less, 바카라사이트 TEF in its second year is a critical milestone. It is 바카라사이트 first year that we will see genuine differentiation, with institutions receiving one of three possible ratings based on a robust process of assessment. And 바카라사이트se ratings ¨C gold, silver or bronze ¨C will provide clear information to prospective students looking to make 바카라사이트ir applications a year from now.
I also believe that 바카라사이트 new category names better convey 바카라사이트 truth of our world-class higher education system: that we have a genuinely high-quality system, within which 바카라사이트re are some truly outstanding providers.
This is both a challenging and an exciting time for UK higher education. I encourage higher education providers across 바카라사이트 UK to take part in 바카라사이트 TEF in Year Two and feed back 바카라사이트ir experiences at 바카라사이트 end of 바카라사이트 second year. Designed properly, and managed effectively, 바카라사이트 TEF gives us an opportunity to celebrate excellence and a common way to think about how it develops.
