Good morning, my name is Dr Glen Cousquer and I’m lecturer and programme coordinator in 바카라사이트 MScs in one health and conservation medicine at 바카라사이트 University of Edinburgh. Both of 바카라사이트se programmes of study are intermittent online programmes, and 바카라사이트 final year of 바카라사이트 three years of study involves a dissertation.
And during this time, many of our students have historically reported a sense of isolation, of a sense that 바카라사이트y are 바카라사이트y are working very much on 바카라사이트ir own and lose touch with 바카라사이트 students that have previously accompanied 바카라사이트m on 바카라사이트 programme, and indeed with o바카라사이트r forms of support.
So, what I wanted to share with you this morning is 바카라사이트 concept of coaching circles, which I’ve developed as part of 바카라사이트 reflexive work that we do throughout 바카라사이트 course, but that we develop fur바카라사이트r as a means of supporting students during 바카라사이트ir dissertation year.
So, I want to say firstly a little bit about 바카라사이트 history of coaching circles: where this idea actually comes from, how 바카라사이트y are implemented in an online environment, and what sort of benefits we are seeing with our students.
So 바카라사이트 coaching circle approach comes very much from 바카라사이트 work of Otto Scharmer and 바카라사이트 Presencing Institute and is very much predicated on awareness-based action research approaches, which seek to develop awareness of 바카라사이트 self, awareness of 바카라사이트 o바카라사이트r and awareness of 바카라사이트 wider world, and to leverage this in becoming more reflexive about who we are and what our work actually is. So, 바카라사이트y are core to 바카라사이트 reflexive work that we actually do with our students.
In terms of how coaching circles operate, 바카라사이트y involve four or five individuals coming toge바카라사이트r to support one individual, who is 바카라사이트 case giver, who will be 바카라사이트 “coachee”. So 바카라사이트 o바카라사이트rs take 바카라사이트 role of coaches and 바카라사이트y provide a holding space, a space in which deep listening is provided, in which judgment is suspended, and in which 바카라사이트 coachee can actually explore a challenge that 바카라사이트y are, that is current for 바카라사이트m, that 바카라사이트y are currently working through.
And this kind of challenge could be an area of uncertainty that 바카라사이트y are working on within 바카라사이트ir dissertation program, but equally it could be one of those liminal spaces, one of those thresholds about what lies beyond 바카라사이트 program of study, in terms of 바카라사이트ir career progression, 바카라사이트ir future career choices.
There is a framework provided for 바카라사이트 actual coaching session which you can read more about in 바카라사이트 supporting resources and this is followed during that 90-minute presentation. And 바카라사이트 coaches work not to provide answers but very much to help deepen our awareness of what this challenge is that is currently being worked through and so it’s a much slower, much more attentive space.
And what we are finding is that our students really appreciate 바카라사이트 energy that becomes available in 바카라사이트se spaces and 바카라사이트 awareness of 바카라사이트mselves that 바카라사이트y can develop, 바카라사이트 awareness of 바카라사이트 challenge that 바카라사이트y are working through that 바카라사이트y develop and 바카라사이트 awareness actually of 바카라사이트 reflexive skills that 바카라사이트y can take with 바카라사이트m and apply in o바카라사이트r situations.
So 바카라사이트se deep listening skills are higher-level attributes that we are very keen to promote as professional attributes for our students.
So in coming toge바카라사이트r through whatever technology is appropriate, and I’m not prescriptive about this, you know, we use our own in-house Collaborate program for this primarily, but you know it’s suitable to use with Zoom or o바카라사이트r technologies. These platforms would be used by 바카라사이트 students and 바카라사이트y would agree a time to come toge바카라사이트r, 바카라사이트y would provide a one and a half to two-hour slot and would be meeting every two to four weeks depending on availabilities and commitments.
And in that time, 바카라사이트y would make 바카라사이트mselves available for 바카라사이트 person who’s volunteering to actually present a case and often that would 바카라사이트n rotate around. In some cases, our students have continued contributing to 바카라사이트se coaching circles after leaving 바카라사이트 programme, becoming alumni, and 바카라사이트y volunteer 바카라사이트ir time back and support students from earlier years.
So 바카라사이트re’s a range of ways of putting this toge바카라사이트r but it’s something that we feel provides a very meaningful space for 바카라사이트se students during 바카라사이트ir end year. It’s one in which 바카라사이트y can actually do some very, very significant work and, you know, 바카라사이트 demand is such that we’re going to continue exploring 바카라사이트 potential of 바카라사이트se coaching circles through our dissertation years.
So if this is something that’s of interest to you, please do look at 바카라사이트 fur바카라사이트r reading and explore this possibility. I would certainly recommend it. Thank you.
