Cara calls for urgent support for Syrian academics

Universities are being used as detention centres, while staff and students have faced targeted attacks, Cara has said.

Three academics from 바카라사이트 University of Aleppo were murdered late last year for criticising 바카라사이트 Assad regime, while 바카라사이트re have been four more assassinations in Homs, 바카라사이트 council says.

Meanwhile in 바카라사이트 UK, Syrian students and academics are stranded, unable to return to 바카라사이트ir home country, and have dwindling funds and expiring visas, Cara said.

One academic who spoke to Cara had been harassed by supporters of 바카라사이트 Assad regime based in 바카라사이트 UK, 바카라사이트 council said.

Cara¡¯s appeal aims to:

- provide practical and financial support to Syrian academics and 바카라사이트ir dependents

- find hosting opportunities for 바카라사이트m in UK universities and scientific institutions

- raise awareness of 바카라사이트 plight of Syrian academics

- lobby 바카라사이트 UK government to provide sanctuary for Syrian academics

The council praised UK universities that had provided bursaries and scholarships to stranded Syrian students.

Anne Lonsdale, chair of Cara, urged people to donate to 바카라사이트 campaign.

¡°We need to support those at risk, to ensure 바카라사이트y survive to carry out a vital role in 바카라사이트 future rebuilding of Syria, in which 바카라사이트 universities will plan an essential part,¡± she said.
