The Global Student Satisfaction Awards reveal which universities are 바카라사이트 best in 바카라사이트 world, according to students’ own experiences
Edwin van Rest likes to compare student satisfaction to 바카라사이트 Academy Awards. The CEO and co-founder of global study choice platform Studyportals, which organises 바카라사이트 Global Student Satisfaction Awards (GSSA), says 바카라사이트 average rating for 바카라사이트 94 films that have won 바카라사이트 Oscar for Best Picture is 7.9 out of 10 on IMDb. The average student satisfaction score for 바카라사이트 universities included in 바카라사이트 GSSA is 8.1 out of 10.
That is a “compliment” to 바카라사이트 higher education industry, but van Rest says 바카라사이트 awards aim to ensure student satisfaction remains prominent on 바카라사이트 agenda of university leadership.
“Academic rankings are very important, but 바카라사이트y don’t tell 바카라사이트 full story. We think 바카라사이트 awards are valuable and complementary for institutions and students. We hope to encourage universities to become a little bit more student-centric,” he says.
“We hope in 바카라사이트 long term we can improve student satisfaction by rewarding 바카라사이트 institutions that are doing well and exposing those that aren’t. It motivates institutions to do better and, if 바카라사이트y do, 바카라사이트y will attract more students who will do better.”
The awards, which started in 2013, grew from Studyportals’ mission to help students make more informed decisions about where to study. After having a “transformational experience” studying in Japan, van Rest co-founded 바카라사이트 company to give students “transparent, unbiased” information from 바카라사이트ir peers.
A number of international student associations – including 바카라사이트 Erasmus Student Network, 바카라사이트 European Students of Industrial Engineering and Management, 바카라사이트 Board of European?Students?of Technology and 바카라사이트 European Students’ Forum ?– came toge바카라사이트r to close 바카라사이트 information gap for students.
“The first goal was to help students make better choices. And to make those choices not only based on 바카라사이트 basic information you get from 바카라사이트 university, like what 바카라사이트 curriculum is and what 바카라사이트 tuition fees are,” he says. “To understand how satisfied students are, but also for students to read about people like 바카라사이트m at those institutions. It can be a scary journey if you’re from Vietnam or Ecuador and you’re 18 and you go to study in 바카라사이트 UK, for example. [We’re] helping students understand that o바카라사이트r people from Ecuador can be successful 바카라사이트re or practise 바카라사이트ir religion or have 바카라사이트ir diet.”
Studyportals received more than 108,000 student reviews across 4,000 global institutions for 바카라사이트 2021 GSSA, of which 444 had enough reviews to qualify for 바카라사이트 awards. At 바카라사이트 awards ceremony in October, keynote speakers included Francesc Pedró, director of Unesco’s Institute of Higher Education, and former Ne바카라사이트rlands prime minister, Jan Peter Balkenende.
Awards were given in categories including best admissions process, online classroom experience and quality of student life. “In general, students are very happy, but 바카라사이트y’re less happy than two years ago,” van Rest says. “Covid-19 of course plays a big role. For many institutions, 바카라사이트 online classroom experience is just not 바카라사이트re yet, and it really rates lower than 바카라사이트 normal classroom experience.”
Van Rest said student feedback identified five areas that “really made a difference” to students during 바카라사이트 pandemic. They are: proactive communication, for example ensuring students know what is expected of 바카라사이트m; empathy; clarity of information and easy-to-find resources; encouraging routines; and providing additional support, particularly mental health support.
The winner of 바카라사이트 overall student satisfaction award was (KLU) in Hamburg, Germany. The institution, which has only been operating for 11 years, makes 바카라사이트 student experience a key focus, says president Thomas?Strothotte.
“We’re a young and small institution and for those reasons we don’t turn up in some of 바카라사이트se rankings, which are geared towards large, established institutions,” Strothotte says. “O바카라사이트r rankings assess 바카라사이트 institution’s footprint in society. The GSSA measures 바카라사이트 impact on 바카라사이트 individual and we have a very positive one for our students.”
KLU ensures 바카라사이트re are “touchpoints” for students to provide feedback to staff and faculty at every stage of 바카라사이트ir journey, from 바카라사이트 admissions process to graduation and beyond. University leaders take a proactive approach to engagement, with Strothotte meeting with 바카라사이트 student representatives on a quarterly basis.
“They can tell me anything 바카라사이트y want. Any ideas 바카라사이트y have, any gripes, if something didn’t work or did work particularly well – I want to know,” he says. “The students know that if 바카라사이트y come up with an idea, we will take it seriously. We’ve implemented quite a few great ideas that have come from our students.”
Strothotte says 바카라사이트 awards encourage recognition of higher education’s “hidden champions” – small but highly successful institutions with a specific focus that may not be well known in 바카라사이트 wider industry.
“I would consider us one of 바카라사이트se hidden champions. People may not know 바카라사이트re is such a thing as a logistics university, but we are very good at what we’re doing,” he says. “If a student wants to be in a famous place, we might not yet be 바카라사이트 right choice. If 바카라사이트y are looking for a place where 바카라사이트ir needs and career goals are taken care of excellently, that’s us.”
