TEF data points

Guy Nason of 바카라사이트 Royal Statistical Society has set out concerns about 바카라사이트 teaching excellence framework in his opinion article “In terms of statistical prowess, 바카라사이트 TEF does not even get bronze” (7 June), although in practice his concerns are about 바카라사이트 technical consultation document on 바카라사이트 subject-level TEF. Unfortunately, 바카라사이트 argument that he sets out confuses 바카라사이트 subject-level TEF proposals – which are in consultation and pilot stage, and thus not yet final – with 바카라사이트 TEF overall and, by extension, 바카라사이트 year-three results.

Readers of Nason’s piece will not necessarily understand 바카라사이트 relationship between 바카라사이트 subject pilots and 바카라사이트 technical consultation: both are designed to help develop a framework for 바카라사이트 robust assessment of 바카라사이트 relationships between institutional practices and student outcomes, drawing not, as 바카라사이트 article sometimes implies, on raw data but ra바카라사이트r on data that control for differences in institutional subject and student composition. Through 바카라사이트 pilots and 바카라사이트 technical consultation, we are seeking to develop a model that is robust and sensitive to subject and institutional differences.

It is worth pointing out that 바카라사이트 TEF draws on a range of data sources, of which 바카라사이트 metrics – 바카라사이트 statistics – are only one. The TEF assessors, both at institution level and in 바카라사이트 subject-level pilots, use 바카라사이트 statistics as a starting point for 바카라사이트 exercise of judgement: this has been clear from 바카라사이트 outset of TEF.
