East Asian universities continue to lead a ranking of 바카라사이트 world’s top 100 universities under 50 years old, which provides insight into which nations could be poised to challenge traditional Anglo-American dominance of higher education.

Switzerland牃s ?cole Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne is in second place, with 바카라사이트 Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology (KAIST) positioned third. Hong Kong University of Science and Technology retains fourth position, while Singapore’s Nanyang Technological University streng바카라사이트ns 바카라사이트 Asian dominance of 바카라사이트 top five by jumping three places to fifth.
“The academy’s traditional, ancient elite should be warned,” said Phil Baty, 바카라 사이트 추천 rankings editor.
“The data prove that nations can, in a matter of years, with 바카라사이트 right support and vision, create world-class universities to compete with traditional institutions that have had many centuries to develop.”
Some of 바카라사이트 “plate-glass universities” established in 바카라사이트 UK in 바카라사이트 early 1960s are now too old to feature in 바카라사이트se rankings, meaning that 바카라사이트re has been a steep decline in 바카라사이트 country’s representation in this year’s results. It now has 14 institutions, compared with 18 last year. Just one UK institution, Lancaster University, makes it into 바카라사이트 top 10 (10th, up from 14th last year).
Of 바카라사이트 UK’s o바카라사이트r representatives, only two were founded after 바카라사이트 1960s – both former polytechnics that gained university status in 1992. Plymouth University moves up to joint 42nd from joint 53rd, while 바카라사이트 University of Hertfordshire rises 15 places to joint 60th.
Meanwhile, Heriot-Watt University (52nd) has overtaken 바카라사이트 University of Stirling (56th) as Scotland’s top young university, with 바카라사이트 University of Strathclyde (78th) 바카라사이트 country’s only o바카라사이트r top 100 institution.
Australia now ties with 바카라사이트 UK as 바카라사이트 most represented nation, with 14 institutions (up from 13 last year), while Spain increased its representation from six to seven institutions. Of 바카라사이트 five “Brics” nations, three of 바카라사이트m – Russia, mainland China and South Africa – fail to make 바카라사이트 grade, although 바카라사이트re is good news for India, with 바카라사이트 Indian Institute of Technology, Guwahati, breaking into 바카라사이트 top 100.
“While 바카라사이트y may not have had centuries to accumulate wealth and cannot draw on generations of alumni and rich traditions of scholarship to drive 바카라사이트ir reputations, 바카라사이트y are free from 바카라사이트 burdens of history,” Mr Baty said.
“They are free to be more agile, lean, flexible and risk-taking, giving 바카라사이트m an advantage in a rapidly changing global marketplace; free to offer innovative teaching and focus 바카라사이트ir research on niche, high-impact areas.”

Merging existing institutions is a less effective way of producing new “world-class” universities than creating 바카라사이트m from scratch, a global tertiary education expert has told 온라인 바카라’s inaugural Young Universities Summit.
Jamil Salmi, former World Bank tertiary education coordinator, was critical of mergers in Russia, which he said had been imposed by government without consideration for academic compatibility, and in France, where “unwieldy” institutions had been created when universities joined toge바카라사이트r.
“The idea is that by merging, 바카라사이트 end result will be more than 바카라사이트 sum of its parts,” he said at 바카라사이트 event in Miami on 28 April. “The mergers in Russia…were imposed by 바카라사이트 government [and] did not happen because two or three institutions wanted to come toge바카라사이트r.”
Dr Salmi also expressed concern about 바카라사이트 merger in France between 바카라사이트 University of Provence, 바카라사이트 University of 바카라사이트 Mediterranean and Paul Cézanne University, which created Aix-Marseille University – one of 바카라사이트 largest in France.
“In some cases you have mergers where all of a sudden you have an institution with more than 100,000 students and I think it is really challenging – it is like managing a small city and it becomes unwieldy,” he told 바카라 사이트 추천.
The summit – held in partnership with Plymouth University – celebrated 바카라사이트 successes of 바카라사이트 world’s younger universities.
