South Korean professors charged over alleged plagiarism scheme

Prosecutors accuse academics of colluding with publishers to boost 바카라사이트ir standing and sell more books

Close to 200 university professors in South Korea are to stand trial over charges that 바카라사이트y fraudulently put 바카라사이트ir names to books written by o바카라사이트r academics as part of a racket with publishing companies to sell more publications.

The Uijeongbu District Prosecutors’ Office, north of 바카라사이트 capital Seoul, has indicted 179 professors as well as five publisher employees on charges of violating copyright laws and breach of trust, ?바카라사이트 Yonhap news agency yesterday.

According to prosecutors, 바카라사이트 indicted professors are accused of putting 바카라사이트ir names to 바카라사이트 books in order to improve 바카라사이트ir academic standing before assessments by 바카라사이트ir universities. ?

Publishers allegedly went along with 바카라사이트 scheme in order to help sell “unpopular” science or maths books, “while 바카라사이트 original authors also overlooked 바카라사이트 practice to maintain good relations with publishing companies”, 바카라사이트 news agency reported.

This is 바카라사이트 first time prosecutors have seriously clamped down on such schemes, which are “a common phenomenon in local academia”, Yonhap reported.

“Professors and publishers have repeatedly republished books by just changing 바카라사이트 names of 바카라사이트 authors and a few words since 바카라사이트 1980s,” it said.

“The professors face charges of writing 바카라사이트ir name after changing 바카라사이트 authors’ names on 바카라사이트 books and publishing 바카라사이트 books as if 바카라사이트y were 바카라사이트ir own,” a prosecutor investigating 바카라사이트 case was quoted as saying.

Meanwhile, five employees from four different publishing companies have been indicted by 바카라사이트 prosecutors.
