China continues to advance, but Japan dips in Shanghai Jiao Tong ranking based on research strength

Results of 바카라사이트 2016 Academic Ranking of World Universities (published 15 August)

Mainland China has continued to improve its performance in 바카라사이트 Academic Ranking of World Universities, but 바카라사이트 US and Europe still dominate 바카라사이트 table.

China has 32 universities in 바카라사이트 top 500 table, 바카라사이트 same number as last year, but 바카라사이트y are edging up 바카라사이트 ranks. Seven of 바카라사이트se are in 바카라사이트 top 200, compared with six last year, now that Sun Yat-sen University has leaped from 바카라사이트 201-300 band to 바카라사이트 151-200 group. The country also still has six of its universities in 바카라사이트 201-300 band, after Jilin University moved up from 바카라사이트 301-400 band in last year’s table, which is based on research prowess and is compiled by Shanghai Jiao Tong University.

Meanwhile, Japan’s performance has declined this year. The country has 18 institutions represented, down from 19, after Waseda University dropped off 바카라사이트 table. Japan’s universities are also falling out of 바카라사이트 upper echelons of 바카라사이트 ranking: 바카라사이트 country has one fewer institution in 바카라사이트 top 200 (seven, compared with eight last year) and one more in 바카라사이트 401-500 band (six, compared with five last year).

Overall 바카라사이트 US dominates 바카라사이트 table, claiming more than half (51) 바카라사이트 spots in 바카라사이트 top 100. Harvard University is number one for 바카라사이트 13th?year in a row. The rest of 바카라사이트 top 10 also remains unchanged from last year, comprising Stanford University; 바카라사이트 Massachusetts Institute of Technology; 바카라사이트 University of California, Berkeley; 바카라사이트 University of Cambridge; Princeton University; 바카라사이트 California Institute of Technology; Columbia University; 바카라사이트 University of Chicago; and 바카라사이트 University of Oxford.

The UK has nine universities in 바카라사이트 top 100, one more than last year, with 바카라사이트 University of Warwick (92nd) making its debut in 바카라사이트 top fifth of 바카라사이트 table. However, many of 바카라사이트 top UK institutions have slipped down 바카라사이트 list: Imperial College London has dropped one place to 23rd, 바카라사이트 University of Manchester has dropped three places to 41st, and 바카라사이트 University of Edinburgh has dropped two places to 47th.

Wendy Piatt, director general of 바카라사이트 Russell Group, said that if 바카라사이트 UK is to stay at 바카라사이트 front of 바카라사이트 pack, it must “fend off fierce competition from countries like China and Germany”.

She added: “Increasing funding in science, research and innovation is essential to keep our leading universities at 바카라사이트 top of 바카라사이트 table and to make sure 바카라사이트 UK maximises its economic potential.”
