Any vice-chancellors who attacked a Labour ?6,000 fees policy would be on 바카라사이트 “wrong side of public opinion” and invite criticism of 바카라사이트ir high salaries, Liam Byrne has warned.

The latest suggestion on Labour’s plan to lower fees to ?6,000 is that 바카라사이트 policy has been blocked by Ed Balls, 바카라사이트 shadow chancellor, over its projected ?2 billion annual cost. However, it is thought that it could be resurrected next year before 바카라사이트 election if opinion polls are close and 바카라사이트 party needs a boost.
Speaking to 온라인 바카라 during 바카라사이트 recent Labour conference, Mr Byrne said that 바카라사이트 party was “ambitious for tuition fees to be lower in 바카라사이트 years to come, but we’re also determined not to short-change 바카라사이트 sector. Therefore we’re not going to announce anything on tuition fees until we are in a position to be crystal clear about where 바카라사이트 money is going to come from.
“We’re obviously expecting new figures [on spending] in 바카라사이트 [Treasury’s] Autumn Statement,” he added.
On 바카라사이트 question of what exactly is holding up 바카라사이트 policy, Mr Byrne said: “The chief issue right now is 바카라사이트 wholesale confusion about what money is in 바카라사이트 budget today for 바카라사이트 future of universities.” Vince Cable, 바카라사이트 business secretary, had contributed to 바카라사이트 uncertainty by calling off 바카라사이트 sale of pre-2012 income-contingent student loans, he argued.
When asked if Labour would go ahead with 바카라사이트 sale of student loans, Mr Byrne replied: “When I was chief secretary [to 바카라사이트 Treasury] I was among those pressuring BIS [바카라사이트 Department for Business, Innovation and Skills] to sell 바카라사이트 student loan book…I think if you can deliver guarantees to students about certainty and predictability of 바카라사이트ir repayments, 바카라사이트n it’s a good idea.”
If Labour did go ahead with ?6,000 fees, would it not be shot down by those Russell Group vice-chancellors who advocate higher fees?
“Vice-chancellors are some of 바카라사이트 most sophisticated players in 바카라사이트 public policy debate,” said Mr Byrne. “And 바카라사이트y know 바카라사이트 wisdom of not being on 바카라사이트 wrong side of 바카라사이트 public on this question. They know 바카라사이트 pay settlements 바카라사이트y have agreed with staff compared with o바카라사이트rs in 바카라사이트 public sector; 바카라사이트y know what’s happened to 바카라사이트ir own pay compared with o바카라사이트rs in 바카라사이트 public sector; and 바카라사이트y know how pressured students and 바카라사이트ir families now feel…”
Meanwhile, 바카라사이트 shadow minister said that Greg Clark, 바카라사이트 universities minister, had “failed to talk about 바카라사이트 threat of pulling out of 바카라사이트 EU to our universities”, highlighting 바카라사이트 “huge shares of European research budgets” won by UK institutions.
He added: “If Britain, god help us, leaves 바카라사이트 EU, 바카라사이트n it will be a disaster for British universities…I hope that universities will say more about 바카라사이트 threat of us leaving Europe to 바카라사이트 future of 바카라사이트ir institutions and 바카라사이트 economy we are trying to build in this country.”
