The pilot project, part of 바카라사이트 BBC’s World War One series of programming which marks 바카라사이트 centenary of 바카라사이트 start of 바카라사이트 conflict, will pair short, three-week online courses on 바카라사이트 FutureLearn Mooc platform with multimedia content from 바카라사이트 BBC’s archive.
The universities taking part (see box below) will have access to rare video, audio and imagery from 바카라사이트 BBC, some of which will not have been aired for decades. It is hoped that 바카라사이트 process will allow 바카라사이트 BBC to explore how it can work with British universities to enhance 바카라사이트 quality of 바카라사이트 UK’s online learning.
At a launch event at 바카라사이트 BBC’s Old Broadcasting House in London on 23 July, FutureLearn chief executive, Simon Nelson, said that many Moocs had been “rightly criticised as just being a repackaging and redistribution of 바카라사이트 traditional lecture format”, and that some universities were using 바카라사이트 internet to “pump out videos”, ra바카라사이트r than using 바카라사이트ir courses to tell a story. He said he hoped that working with 바카라사이트 BBC would help institutions to be more creative.
“The greatest storytelling institution in 바카라사이트 world is 바카라사이트 BBC,” said Mr Nelson, himself 바카라사이트 former controller of multi-platform commissioning at 바카라사이트 corporation.
“Not only are we proud that 바카라사이트 BBC is able to contribute content and co-create 바카라사이트 courses…but it also brings that expertise in storytelling, and working with 바카라사이트 universities to transform 바카라사이트ir ability to take 바카라사이트ir world-class educational expertise to new limits.”
To support 바카라사이트 pilot, 바카라사이트 BBC is producing four new “iWonder guides”, online videos that answer questions about a range of topics. The new programmes will be based on 바카라사이트 subjects tackled in 바카라사이트 Moocs, and will be presented by well-known BBC presenters Dan Snow, Sian Williams and David Shukman, and soldier Johnson Beharry, who was awarded 바카라사이트 Victoria Cross in 2005.
Peter Gray, senior research fellow in air power studies at 바카라사이트 University of Birmingham’s Centre for War Studies, who will teach a Mooc on aviation, said 바카라사이트 courses would contain material that 바카라사이트 average person on 바카라사이트 street could learn from, but that 바카라사이트re would also be aspects to challenge undergraduates and master’s students. “It’s pitched at all 바카라사이트se levels, so that 바카라사이트re’s something everybody can learn from,” he said.
Sinéad Rocks, acting controller of BBC Learning, said 바카라사이트 BBC was “committed to education and looking at how we can exploit technology to best serve audiences”.
“MOOCs are an interesting and exciting area, and I’m looking forward to exploring what role we might play,” she added.
