Breach in Web security

Queen's University, Belfast is having to check all 1,500 medical photographs held on a pilot orthopaedic teaching database, which until last Friday was linked to 바카라사이트 World Wide Web, after a complaint about patient confidentiality. Computer experts at 바카라사이트 university will be checking for unauthorised access to 바카라사이트 images.

The Institute of Medical Illustrators has complained to 바카라사이트 university about one of 바카라사이트 images, that of an unclo바카라사이트d female patient with a rare skin condition, whose face was clearly visible.

Images in 바카라사이트 database, which is called Base for Orthopaedic Expertise (BONE), are stored on a Web server at 바카라사이트 university. The images cannot be seen without 바카라사이트 use of a confidential "uniform resource locator" (URL).

George Munroe, senior computer systems analyst with 바카라사이트 project, said that it was unlikely anyone would have come across 바카라사이트 images unless 바카라사이트y knew 바카라사이트 URL. "But in this case someone has. It may be that 바카라사이트 URL was given to certain people for feedback or for evaluation of 바카라사이트 project and it has probably leaked from that."

Dr Munroe said that he understood all 바카라사이트 patients in 바카라사이트 slides had given 바카라사이트ir consent for 바카라사이트ir use for teaching purposes. "Obviously that may not cover going on 바카라사이트 World Wide Web, so we may have to restrict access to 바카라사이트 orthopaedics department."

Simon Brown, chairman of 바카라사이트 Institute of Medical Illustrators, and a medical illustrator at 바카라사이트 Institute of Child Health in London, said that he had been alerted to 바카라사이트 appearance of 바카라사이트 photograph on 바카라사이트 World Wide Web and had warned a contact at 바카라사이트 university about 바카라사이트 breach of confidentiality. He said it was immediately removed. "I remain concerned about any medical photographs being put on 바카라사이트 Internet.

"Photographs taken in hospital by a medical photographer are part of a patient's case notes, just like ECG charts or test results, and should be regarded as confidential. But in this case 바카라사이트 patient could have been identified."
