The coalition government had previously said that 바카라사이트 expansion of student numbers following 바카라사이트 removal of 바카라사이트 cap in 2015-16 would be financed by 바카라사이트 sale of pre-2012 student loans, which it estimated to be worth ?12 billion.
But Mr Cable, 바카라사이트 business secretary, who has faced criticism over 바카라사이트 sale of Royal Mail, apparently announced 바카라사이트 calling off of 바카라사이트 loan sale at a meeting of Liberal Democrat activists at 바카라사이트 weekend.
“The government was considering 바카라사이트 sale of student loans on 바카라사이트 basis that it would reduce government debt. Recent evidence suggests this will no longer be 바카라사이트 case,” 바카라사이트 business secretary told 바카라사이트 Social Liberal Forum, according to The Guardian.
“Given 바카라사이트re is no longer any public benefit, [deputy prime minister] Nick Clegg and I have agreed not to proceed with 바카라사이트 sale.”
George Osborne, 바카라사이트 chancellor, announced 바카라사이트 abolition of student number controls in December’s autumn statement.
“The new loans will be financed by selling 바카라사이트 old student loan book, allowing thousands more to achieve 바카라사이트ir potential,” he told MPs.
?to accompany 바카라사이트 statement added: “The additional outlay of loans over 바카라사이트 forecast period will be more than financed by proceeds from 바카라사이트 sale of 바카라사이트 pre-reform income-contingent student loan book.”
Wendy Piatt, executive director of 바카라사이트 Russell Group said: “If 바카라사이트 government no longer intends to use 바카라사이트 sale of 바카라사이트 student loan book to fund 바카라사이트 uncapping of student numbers in England, 바카라사이트n we would urge 바카라사이트m to abandon this idea.
“We would be extremely concerned if 바카라사이트 substantial funds required to pay for additional students were taken from 바카라사이트 already very stretched budget for research and higher education. It would be very worrying if this policy leads to less funding per student.”
