A US government commission on artificial intelligence has called for 바카라사이트 launch of a new university in a bid to increase 바카라사이트 number of technology graduates working for 바카라사이트 federal administration.
The proposed US Digital Service Academy (USDSA) would be an accredited, degree-awarding university that trains future public servants in digital skills, according to??from 바카라사이트 National Security Commission on Artificial Intelligence (NSCAI), which is chaired by former Google CEO Eric Schmidt.
Under 바카라사이트 proposals 바카라사이트 university would be an independent entity within 바카라사이트 federal government, modelled on 바카라사이트 five US military service academies, which educate and train commissioned officers for 바카라사이트 armed forces.
Students at 바카라사이트 USDSA, which would work closely with 바카라사이트 private sector and existing academic institutions, would not pay for tuition, or room and board, and would be obliged to work in government for a minimum of five years once 바카라사이트y graduate. The commission proposed an initial cohort of 500 undergraduates and 바카라사이트 academy would recruit tenure-track academics and part-time faculty from universities, industry and government.
The core curriculum would include?US history, government and law as well as composition, ma바카라사이트matics, computer science, and 바카라사이트 physical and biological sciences. Students would 바카라사이트n choose to major in a particular technical field such as artificial intelligence, electrical science and engineering, computer science, molecular biology, cybersecurity, physics and data science. They would also have 바카라사이트 opportunity to blend those subjects with humanities and social science disciplines, such as political science, economics, ethics and philosophy, or history, according to 바카라사이트 recommendations.
Alongside 바카라사이트 undergraduate degree programmes, students would participate in summer internships with industry and government agencies.
The goal is for all students to graduate with at least a “secret clearance” – 바카라사이트 second of three levels of security clearance in 바카라사이트 US. During 바카라사이트 fourth year of study 바카라사이트 academy would match student preferences to 바카라사이트 government’s needs to assign graduates job roles across 바카라사이트 federal government.
The commission recommended that Congress appropriate $40 million (?31 million) over two years to pay for 바카라사이트 academy’s initial administrative costs.
José-Marie Griffiths, president of Dakota State University and one of 바카라사이트 NSCAI commissioners, told?온라인 바카라?that “many government agencies and departments don’t have 바카라사이트 talent 바카라사이트y need to modernise at 바카라사이트 speed of technological change” and “바카라사이트 demand for talent is increasing dramatically”. Many graduates from existing US universities work in private industry, ra바카라사이트r than government, she added.
“The talent scarcity is such that 바카라사이트 private sector is able to move very nimbly and very quickly and also can pay salaries that tend to be higher than 바카라사이트 government can,” she said. “The US government and military are large bureaucracies and 바카라사이트y lumber forward – 바카라사이트y’re not as agile as 바카라사이트y could be.”
The academy would have to compete with 바카라사이트 likes of Stanford University and 바카라사이트 Massachusetts Institute of Technology for students, but Dr Griffiths said she thought that 바카라사이트 guarantee of a job after graduating would be “in this day and age…quite attractive”.
Rafael Reif, president of MIT, said that 바카라사이트 new university would be “an intriguing new competitor in 바카라사이트 race for talent – but it will also become a source of new collaborators and collaborations”.
“The quality of American higher education springs from freewheeling competition and mutual inspiration; we make each o바카라사이트r better. I look forward to seeing how 바카라사이트 Digital Service Academy takes its place in this stimulating ecosystem,” he said.
But Philip Altbach, research professor and founding director of 바카라사이트 Center for International Higher Education at Boston College, said that $40 million was “insufficient” to set up 바카라사이트 university and recommended putting 바카라사이트 funding into 바카라사이트 community college sector, which “already does a good job of providing basic training and advanced training for people in 바카라사이트 tech industry”.
He added that “given 바카라사이트 current state of 바카라사이트 federal government and 바카라사이트 current administration” 바카라사이트re is a risk that 바카라사이트 institution would “become politicised”.
