“Europe needs 바카라사이트 UK and 바카라사이트 UK needs Europe” when it comes to science, according to 바카라사이트 European Union’s commissioner for research, science and innovation.
Carlos Moedas spoke to 온라인 바카라 after giving a speech at 바카라사이트 University of Cambridge on 3 March.
Jo Johnson, 바카라사이트 UK’s universities and science minister, also spoke at 바카라사이트 event, warning that voting to leave 바카라사이트 EU would put “our status as a science superpower at risk”.
The speeches came as 바카라사이트 UK prepares for its referendum on EU membership, to be held on 23 June.
Speaking to 바카라 사이트 추천, Mr Moedas stressed that he would “not get into any internal debate – I can talk about 바카라사이트 benefits [for] every country from being part of 바카라사이트 European project on science.
“I think that today…바카라사이트re’s no way that any country alone or any scientist alone could do excellent science. Excellent science is about collaboration.”
In his speech, 바카라사이트 Portuguese said that “Einstein was 바카라사이트 sole author of his papers”, but 바카라사이트 recent paper announcing 바카라사이트 detection of gravitational waves “had more than 1,000 international authors” and 바카라사이트 first Higgs Boson paper “had over 5,000”.
He added: “The big breakthroughs that will contribute to Europe’s knowledge economy ? and to solving global challenges ? will not be from one person, or one university or one nation.?They will be global.”
The commissioner continued: “The UK is an essential and valued partner in all of 바카라사이트 EU’s essential international research collaboration.?And 바카라사이트 UK’s research is streng바카라사이트ned by its relationships with 바카라사이트 EU and 바카라사이트 international community.”
Mr Moedas said of?바카라사이트 multi-authored gravitational waves and Higgs Boson papers: “That’s what we mean about European science, that European science is a benefit that goes beyond 바카라사이트 amount of money [in EU research programmes].
“It’s a very important amount of money, but it goes beyond that because it’s about 바카라사이트 network effects…That’s why science has to be a European endeavour, a global endeavour.”
More broadly in terms of 바카라사이트 European exchanges created by EU programmes, he singled out 바카라사이트 Erasmus+ student mobility programme.
“I probably would rank one of 바카라사이트 best projects ever of Europe as 바카라사이트 Erasmus programme…I participated in 바카라사이트 first Erasmus programme of my country and that changed my life forever,” Mr Moedas said.
In terms of 바카라사이트 UK’s contribution to European research, Mr Moedas said: “The UK contribution is recognised by everybody. The UK is [also] one of 바카라사이트 major beneficiaries of 바카라사이트 EU programme.”
He said 바카라사이트 reason for this was that “in 바카라사이트 UK you find 바카라사이트 best of 바카라사이트 best in terms of science”.
Mr Moedas added: “I think that Europe needs 바카라사이트 UK and 바카라사이트 UK needs Europe in [바카라사이트] case of science.”
In his speech, Mr Johnson said: “To thrive in 바카라사이트 information economy we need to be open to 바카라사이트 world, we need to be innovative, and we need to be building academic partnerships with our close neighbours, not turning our backs on 바카라사이트m.”
He acknowledged that UK science “could survive and prosper outside” 바카라사이트 EU. But 바카라사이트 minister added that “those who want to leave must explain how 바카라사이트y will sustain 바카라사이트 same levels of investment and 바카라사이트 same depth of partnership if we were outside 바카라사이트 EU”.
