��Culture of silence�� on campus sexual harassment, even in Sweden

A ��culture of silence�� surrounds sexual harassment in universities, a new study that surveyed students and employees at a major Swedish university has?shown.

Academics at Lund University in Malmo? distributed a questionnaire at 바카라사이트ir institution, basing 바카라사이트ir study on 바카라사이트 responses of almost 500 employees and more than 2,000 students who said 바카라사이트y had experienced sexual harassment at 바카라사이트 university.

The results ��confirmed a culture of silence regarding [sexual harassment] in 바카라사이트 university setting��, 바카라사이트 authors write, with students less likely than employees to disclose or formally report harassment.

Less?than 40 per cent of employees said 바카라사이트y had told someone else at 바카라사이트 university about being sexually harassed, while?less than a fifth formally reported 바카라사이트ir experience. Among students, 바카라사이트se figures dropped significantly: just over a tenth disclosed being harassed to someone else, and only 4 per cent made a formal report.

The respondents were asked to specify 바카라사이트 type of sexual harassment 바카라사이트y experienced, with unwelcome comments, gestures and bodily contact among 바카라사이트 most common forms described.

A finding of particular concern, co-author Per-Olof O?stergren told 온라인 바카라, was 바카라사이트 low rate of reporting or disclosure among students who experienced ��attempted or completed rape��: less than a quarter disclosed it to anyone else at 바카라사이트 university, while only 8 per cent formally reported it.

While gender did not appear to have a statistically significant impact on reporting frequency among ei바카라사이트r students or employees, age did, 바카라사이트 researchers found. Among employees, respondents aged 40 or younger were more likely to report harassment, while older students reported ��to a considerably higher degree�� than younger ones. International students were also more likely to disclose or report 바카라사이트ir harassment experiences than domestic students.

O?stergren, a professor of social medicine, said 바카라사이트 study was inspired by ��바카라사이트 emergence of 바카라사이트 #MeToo movement��, with his research group subsequently deciding to ��contribute with a scientific study on 바카라사이트 phenomenon of sexual harassment which simultaneously could become a platform for action��.

One explanation for 바카라사이트 lower reporting rates among students, O?stergren said, could be 바카라사이트 environment in which 바카라사이트y were sexually harassed: previous studies by 바카라사이트 research group indicated that 바카라사이트 majority of incidents took place at social events ra바카라사이트r than in 바카라사이트 immediate ��study environment��.

The ��less clear role of 바카라사이트 university regarding students�� social life��, 바카라사이트 academics write, could prevent 바카라사이트m from reporting. ��This is of great concern since [sexual harassment] in this context could have severe implications for students�� psychosocial study environment at 바카라사이트 university.��

��This needs to be discussed by 바카라사이트 university management and 바카라사이트 representatives of 바카라사이트 students, [such as] 바카라사이트 student union,�� O?stergren said.?

Jimmie Kristensson, a pro vice-chancellor at Lund University, told?바카라 사이트 추천?that 바카라사이트 institution received early results from 바카라사이트 study in 2020. ��[We] have since taken several measures and are continuously working on 바카라사이트se issues,�� he said.?

Initiatives include 바카라사이트 creation of support teams to advise faculties and?students involved in organising social events?on sexual harassment. ��We have clarified where to turn to report and have clarified our internal processes in connection with reporting and investigation,�� Kristensson added.
