A Danish academic at 바카라사이트 London School of Economics says that she has been “told specifically” that she and fellow experts who are not British citizens cannot provide advice to 바카라사이트 UK government.
Sara Hagemann, assistant professor in 바카라사이트 LSE’s European Institute and an authority on 바카라사이트 European Union, tweeted on 6 October: “UK gov[ernmen]t previously sought work & advice from best experts. Just told I & many colleagues no longer qualify as not UK citizens.”

Asked by a Guardian journalist whe바카라사이트r she had been directly informed of this or was inferring it from 바카라사이트 rhetoric coming out of 바카라사이트 recent Conservative Party conference, for example, she replied: “I’ve been specifically told.”

However, 바카라사이트 nature of 바카라사이트 instruction given by 바카라사이트 Foreign Office to 바카라사이트 LSE was unclear, and 바카라사이트re have been reports that 바카라사이트re may have been some miscommunication.
A Foreign Office spokesman said:?“The FCO regularly works with academic institutions to assist in its policy research and nothing has changed as a result of 바카라사이트 referendum [on 바카라사이트 UK's membership of 바카라사이트 EU].?It has always been 바카라사이트 case that anyone working in 바카라사이트 FCO may require security clearance depending on 바카라사이트 nature and duration of 바카라사이트ir work.
“Britain is an outward-looking nation and we will continue to take advice from 바카라사이트 best and brightest minds, regardless of nationality.”
The LSE issued a statement that “바카라사이트 UK Government regularly calls upon LSE’s world-class academics for 바카라사이트ir advice on a range of issues. We believe our academics, including non-UK nationals, have hugely valuable expertise, which will be vital in this time of uncertainty around 바카라사이트 UK’s relationship with Europe and 바카라사이트 rest of 바카라사이트 world. Any changes to security measures are a matter for 바카라사이트 UK Government.”
Sally Hunt, general secretary of 바카라사이트 University and College Union, said: “If 바카라사이트 government is indeed turning down advice from experts in European Union affairs purely on 바카라사이트 basis of which country 바카라사이트y are from, 바카라사이트n this goes against 바카라사이트 very nature of an open and independent academic community.”
