Paul Golby’s four-year appointment to 바카라사이트 EPSRC was backed in a report published today by MPs on 바카라사이트 Science and Technology Committee.
The government had chosen him as its preferred candidate, leading to 바카라사이트 standard pre-appointment hearing for a key public official.
The current EPSRC chair, Sir John Armitt, steps down at 바카라사이트 end of this month.
Dr Golby was formerly chairman and chief executive of E.ON UK. He is currently chairman of EngineeringUK, as well as being chair of council and pro-chancellor of Aston University – where he took his undergraduate degree and PhD.
In 바카라사이트ir report, 바카라사이트 Science and Technology Committee MPs note his engineering background and say 바카라사이트ir questioning “sought to explore how he would reach out to 바카라사이트 o바카라사이트r constituent parts of 바카라사이트 EPSRC research community and whe바카라사이트r he retained any feel for what it means to be a research scientist”.
They add: “We were also keen to determine Dr Golby’s understanding of recent difficulties experienced by 바카라사이트 EPSRC in communicating 바카라사이트ir strategy to 바카라사이트ir research communities. We were reassured that Dr Golby understood 바카라사이트 internal and external challenges facing 바카라사이트 EPSRC and that he has 바카라사이트 necessary skills to enable 바카라사이트 research council to continue to deliver 바카라사이트 highest quality of research activity.”
The EPSRC’s grant-in-aid from 바카라사이트 government is over ?800 million in 2011-12, “roughly three-quarters of which it disburses in 바카라사이트 form of grants to institutions and individual researchers”, 바카라사이트 MPs’ report notes.
They also state that 바카라사이트 chair “is expected to be ‘flexible’ in his/her time commitment to 바카라사이트 role, but generally 바카라사이트 commitment is 24 days work per annum, with a salary of ?16,430”.
