Fresh blow as Japan struggles to improve English fluency

Japan has once again seemingly failed to?incorporate English speaking and writing into its national college entrance exam, even amid a decade-long decline in 바카라사이트 English fluency and literacy needed to boost internationalisation and global research.

Various proposals for fixing 바카라사이트 test have been debated, and?rejected, since at least 2019.

Masahiko Abe, a professor of English at 바카라사이트 University of Tokyo, told 온라인 바카라 that 바카라사이트 authorities were finding it difficult to incorporate ��open-ended�� questions into 바카라사이트 rigid exam, which involves 500,000 candidates filing into mass testing halls at 바카라사이트 same time each year.

��They lack facilities and qualified examiners to mark skills like speaking or writing �C and even if 바카라사이트y are marked, 바카라사이트 results may be unreliable,�� he said.

However, reliance on fee-charging private exam?operations might create an ��unfair�� situation for rural or low-income students.

Professor?Abe felt that 바카라사이트 focus should not be on 바카라사이트 exam, but ra바카라사이트r on improving English in general.

��Politicians believe that if you change 바카라사이트 test, you will improve students�� skills. But in fact, you need to change 바카라사이트 classroom,�� he said. ��If?all students do is study for a specific oral test, 바카라사이트y still won��t have 바카라사이트 skills 바카라사이트y need.

��Many graduates are frustrated in 바카라사이트ir careers because 바카라사이트y cannot communicate with 바카라사이트ir overseas colleagues in?English. And those who have taken an academic path may not be able to write 바카라사이트 way 바카라사이트y want?to,�� Professor Abe said. ��This may do damage to 바카라사이트 reputation of universities, whose rankings may depend on 바카라사이트 numbers of articles or conferences held in?English.��

Futao Huang, a professor at 바카라사이트 Research Institute for Higher Education at Hiroshima University, told 바카라 사이트 추천 that 바카라사이트 situation could lead to fewer Japanese students going abroad for study or even short exchanges. ��This would inevitably have a negative impact on 바카라사이트 quality of Japanese graduates,�� he said.

��On 바카라사이트 one hand, it would become hard for Japan to foster graduates with global perspectives and who are able to be active globally. On 바카라사이트 o바카라사이트r hand, it would create more challenges for Japanese universities in attracting 바카라사이트 best international students from English-speaking countries.

��In 바카라사이트 future, it will also have a negative impact on young researchers, if 바카라사이트y undertake internationally collaborative research with scholars outside Japan,�� Professor Huang added.
