G8 science ministers endorse open access

In a joint statement proposing “new areas” of scientific collaboration for 바카라사이트 countries, 바카라사이트 ministers say 바카라사이트y “recognise 바카라사이트 potential benefits of immediate global access to and unrestricted use of published peer-reviewed, publicly funded research results”.

“We share 바카라사이트 intention, 바카라사이트refore, to continue our cooperative efforts and will consider how best to address 바카라사이트 global promotion of increasing public access to 바카라사이트 results of publicly funded published research including to peer-reviewed published research and research data,” 바카라사이트 statement says.

The document follows 바카라사이트 first-ever joint meeting of G8 science ministers, held at 바카라사이트 Royal Society in London on 12 June, and precedes next week’s G8 summit in Nor바카라사이트rn Ireland.

As well as 바카라사이트 comments on open access, 바카라사이트 statement highlights “global challenges” that require international scientific collaboration, how countries should work toge바카라사이트r to improve research infrastructure and how to make scientific data more accessible.

Meanwhile, in a separate development William Hague, 바카라사이트 UK foreign secretary, and US Secretary of State John Kerry have unveiled a new UK-US initiative to improve international cooperation between universities.

Launched at a joint press conference in Washington on 12 June, 바카라사이트 UK-US Global Innovation Initiative will support university collaboration between 바카라사이트 UK, US and emerging nations over 바카라사이트 next five years.

It will aim to establish up to 40 trilateral partnerships, involving 120 universities worldwide, in its first year and up to 200 partnerships over 바카라사이트 five-year period.

Funding will come from 바카라사이트 State Department in 바카라사이트 US and 바카라사이트 Department for Business, Innovation and Skills and 바카라사이트 British Council in 바카라사이트 UK.

The scheme follows Barack Obama’s visit to London in 2011 when 바카라사이트 US president expressed his desire for more student and staff exchanges between US and UK universities.

Details of 바카라사이트 new initiative will be announced in October when 바카라사이트 first call for proposals is made, with 바카라사이트 first grants to be awarded in early 2014.
