Campaigners had expressed concern that 바카라사이트 reforms proposed in 바카라사이트 health and social care bill, which would see responsibility for NHS commissioning in England transferred to groups of GPs, could undermine 바카라사이트 health service’s role in medical research.

But following a report by 바카라사이트 independent NHS Futures Forum, published today, 바카라사이트 government has announced that it will impose a duty on both 바카라사이트 health secretary and 바카라사이트 commissioning boards to promote research.

The latter will also have a duty to promote 바카라사이트 use of research evidence.

Sir John Bell, president of 바카라사이트 Academy of Medical Sciences and Regius professor of medicine at 바카라사이트 University of Oxford, described 바카라사이트 moves as “a hugely significant step”.

“These measures will ensure a duty to support research at all levels of 바카라사이트 NHS and provide a clear sign that 바카라사이트 government has listened to 바카라사이트 concerns of 바카라사이트 medical science community,” he said

The government has also committed to ensuring that a “culture of research and innovation” is embedded in both 바카라사이트 new NHS Commissioning Board, which will oversee health commissioning at 바카라사이트 national level, and Public Health England, which will oversee national public health projects such as vaccination.

Sir John welcomed 바카라사이트 decision to establish 바카라사이트 latter as an executive agency, ensuring that its advice to government would be independent and providing “an important home for public health scientists”.

But he warned that embedding research in 바카라사이트 NHS “must be accompanied by a workforce that values research and innovation”, and he echoed calls from 바카라사이트 NHS Futures Forum to review proposals around education and training for health workers.

Lord Willis, chair of 바카라사이트 Association of Medical Research Charities and former chair of 바카라사이트 Commons Science and Technology Committee, said 바카라사이트 decision “to effectively place a duty on all working in 바카라사이트 NHS to promote research” was “a most welcome step forward”.

But Peter Weissberg, medical director at 바카라사이트 British Heart Foundation, warned that “바카라사이트 devil will be in 바카라사이트 detail of what commissioners are actually prepared to fund”.
