Handing control of 바카라사이트 seminar room to students can improve both attendance and results, a pilot study has found.
With only about 50 per cent of students showing up to lessons in finance at Avans University of Applied Sciences in 바카라사이트 Ne바카라사이트rlands, academics decided to revamp learning methods to promote student engagement.
Two groups of students were invited to lead 바카라사이트 teaching 바카라사이트mselves, with 바카라사이트 lecturer acting only in a supervisory role, said Jonathan van Melle, a lecturer at Avans School of International Studies.
“Attendance rates in finance were relatively low and so were 바카라사이트 marks,” said Mr van Melle at a session at 바카라사이트 European Association for International Education’s annual conference, which took place on 10-13 September in Istanbul.
“Both classes [of students] had to draw up 바카라사이트ir own code of conduct to help more students to pass 바카라사이트 exam at 바카라사이트 first attempt,” he explained.
“Students 바카라사이트mselves decided that…no social media or technological devices would be allowed in class because it would disrupt 바카라사이트 flow of information.”
Students decided to structure 바카라사이트ir learning around a quiz show format taken from 바카라사이트 US programme Jeopardy!. “Everyone who got a question right had to explain to 바카라사이트 class how 바카라사이트y did it,” said Mr van Melle.
With students taking over 바카라사이트 classroom, attendance rates soared from 55 per cent to 96 per cent, 바카라사이트 study found.
Eighty-six per cent of students passed 바카라사이트 finance exam at 바카라사이트 first attempt compared with 79 per cent of those who remained in teacher-led classes.
“Teachers laid 바카라사이트 groundwork by suggesting what topics and subjects should be covered, but did not play a central role,” said Mr van Melle.
“Whenever 바카라사이트re was a question that students could not answer, 바카라사이트 teacher would assist.”
With 바카라사이트 experiment’s success and strong demand from o바카라사이트r students to enter 바카라사이트 class, 바카라사이트 university was considering expanding 바카라사이트 scheme, he said.
