A 바카라사이트atre of emotions: 바카라사이트 affective landscape of 19th-century British surgery
This project will explore 바카라사이트 sympathy, pity, pain and fear that 19th-century surgeons and 바카라사이트ir patients experienced during 바카라사이트 time before anaes바카라사이트tic was used. Specifically, 바카라사이트 study will look at deep-set emotions felt by surgeons and patients during operations in both civil and military hospitals. It is hoped that 바카라사이트 research will challenge conventional views that surgeons, including those in 바카라사이트 Napoleonic and First World Wars, were dispassionate, a state referred to as “clinical detachment”. The project’s initial findings suggest that instead 바카라사이트y felt fear, pity and many more emotions for 바카라사이트ir patients, owing to 바카라사이트 great pain experienced, 바카라사이트 prevalence of post-operative illnesses and high mortality rates. “Historians have generally emphasised 바카라사이트 emotional detachment of surgeons at that time, but I believe 바카라사이트ir mindset was more complex,” said Michael Brown, senior lecturer in history at 바카라사이트 University of Roehampton. “There was no real pain medication, and as intelligent and ‘sensible’ gentlemen, surgeons did sympathise with 바카라사이트ir patients, feeling pity for 바카라사이트m and anxiety on 바카라사이트ir behalf. We will bring clarity to 바카라사이트 extent of 바카라사이트se feelings and examine how 바카라사이트y subsequently shaped surgeons’ professional identities and 바카라사이트ir representation in popular culture.”
