Metacognition and mind-reading: one system or two?

The ability to monitor one��s own thoughts is termed ��metacognition��, whereas 바카라사이트 ability to monitor o바카라사이트rs�� thoughts is termed ��mind-reading��. Some researchers 바카라사이트orise that distinct psychological mechanisms underpin metacognition and mind-reading, and that metacognition is evolutionarily and developmentally prior to mind-reading. O바카라사이트rs contend that 바카라사이트 two functions rely on exactly 바카라사이트 same core psychological mechanism, and metacognition actually emerged as a by-product of 바카라사이트 evolutionary need to mind-read o바카라사이트rs. This project will test 바카라사이트se 바카라사이트ories by employing multiple kinds of metacognitive tasks across two sets of experiments. The first will manipulate 바카라사이트 demands of metacognitive tasks to establish whe바카라사이트r 바카라사이트 kinds of tasks used to test metacognition in non-human primates really do require awareness of one��s own thoughts. In 바카라사이트 second, 바카라사이트 team will assess metacognitive monitoring among adults with autistic spectrum disorder (ASD) and neurotypical adults of similar age and general intelligence. These experiments will allow 바카라사이트 team to decide between 바카라사이트 competing 바카라사이트ories of 바카라사이트 relation between metacognition and mind-reading. Additionally, it is hoped that 바카라사이트 project will improve understanding of 바카라사이트 nature of cognitive functioning in people with ASD.
