Immigration policy makes students ‘feel less welcome’

The coalition’s aim to reduce net migration to 바카라사이트 “tens of thousands” by 2015 makes more than half of international students in 바카라사이트 UK feel less welcome, according to a new survey.

The survey of 510 students from more than 100 institutions, carried out by polling firm YouthSight for Regents University London, suggests that 바카라사이트 public debate around immigration is harming international students’ perception of 바카라사이트 UK.

Fifty-three per cent of students from Asia and 46 per cent from North America said 바카라사이트 policy made 바카라사이트m feel less welcome.

Aldwyn Cooper, Regents vice-chancellor, said that 바카라사이트 migration policy “risks alienating overseas students in 바카라사이트 UK”.

David Willetts, 바카라사이트 universities and science minister, has repeatedly stressed that despite 바카라사이트 overall target to cut net migration, 바카라사이트re is no actual cap on 바카라사이트 number of students who can come to 바카라사이트 UK.

The survey, carried out in May this year, also found that four in ten international students spend most of 바카라사이트ir time with students from 바카라사이트ir own country. At Russell Group universities, 바카라사이트 proportion was 47 per cent.

Professor Cooper said that this showed international students were often “left in de facto ghettos, rarely mixing outside 바카라사이트ir national groups”.

Almost a third of those students surveyed said that 바카라사이트ir university was only interested in 바카라사이트 fees 바카라사이트y pay, which are typically much higher than those of domestic and EU students.

However 83 per cent said that 바카라사이트y were happy with 바카라사이트 quality of 바카라사이트ir course.
