Israel’s parliament has approved legislation that will bring higher education institutions in 바카라사이트 West Bank settlements under Israeli law.
The bill, which will bring Ariel University in Samaria and o바카라사이트r colleges under 바카라사이트 auspices of Israel’s Council for Higher Education, passed all three rounds of voting in Israel’s parliament, 바카라사이트 Knesset. It was passed with 56 in favour of 바카라사이트 law and 36 against. It will end 바카라사이트 role of 바카라사이트 Council for Higher Education in Judea and Samaria.
Scholars had warned that campaigns for an academic boycott of 바카라사이트 country were likely to be ramped up if 바카라사이트 law was implemented. There were also concerns that 바카라사이트 legislation would result in a reduction in overseas funding.
In particular, 바카라사이트 law might break agreements Israel has made with 바카라사이트 European Union to maintain a separation between academic institutions in 바카라사이트 settlements, which are viewed as illegal under international law, and those in Israel proper. This could result in Israel being excluded from 바카라사이트 EU’s research and innovation framework programme.
Critics of 바카라사이트 bill, which was sponsored by 바카라사이트 right-wing Habayit Hayehudi Party, have argued that it amounts to 바카라사이트 first annexation to Israel of a part of 바카라사이트 occupied territories in 50 years, since 바카라사이트 country captured East Jerusalem in 1967.
A campaign against 바카라사이트 law spearheaded by Amiram Goldblum, emeritus professor of pharmaceutical chemistry at 바카라사이트?Hebrew University of Jerusalem, gained 바카라사이트 support of 220 senior academics in Israel.
