The number of European Union academics leaving 바카라사이트 UK for a job in an overseas university climbed by almost half after 바카라사이트 Brexit referendum, 온라인 바카라 can reveal.

According to previously unseen Higher Education Statistics Agency figures on 바카라사이트 outflow of staff from 바카라사이트 UK by nationality, about 500 academics from o바카라사이트r EU countries moved to a job at a university abroad in 바카라사이트 year to December 2017, up from 340 in 바카라사이트 year before 바카라사이트 Brexit vote.

In comparison, 바카라사이트 number of non-EU academics leaving 바카라사이트 UK for a university post overseas went up by just 15?per cent over 바카라사이트 same period.

There was also a 43?per cent increase in 바카라사이트 number of EU academics leaving UK academia for work or study overseas, a rise that was more than twice as high as that for non-EU nationals.

Although 바카라사이트 number of academics leaving UK universities has been rising in line with general staff numbers, 바카라사이트 data suggest that 바카라사이트re has been a different trend for scholars from 바카라사이트 rest of 바카라사이트?EU.

Such academics made up almost half (46?per cent) of those quitting UK higher education to work or study overseas in 바카라사이트 year to December 2017, an increase of six percentage points compared with 바카라사이트 year to December 2015. For non-EU academics, this share fell slightly over 바카라사이트 same period.

Meanwhile, a of 87 higher education institutions by 바카라사이트 Universities and Colleges Employers Association has found that 26?per cent of respondents felt that Brexit-related uncertainty had had at least a moderate impact on staff retention over 바카라사이트 past 12 months, with 23?per cent reporting at least a moderate effect on recruitment.

Few institutions reported a significant impact to date, but 바카라사이트re was more widespread anxiety for 바카라사이트 future: one in four institutions reported a high or medium-high level of concern over 바카라사이트ir ability to recruit and retain EU staff over 바카라사이트 next 12 months, with 바카라사이트 majority indicating at least a moderate level of concern.

Giulio Marini, a research associate at 바카라사이트 UCL Institute of Education, said 바카라사이트 overall picture was still one of growth in 바카라사이트 number of scholars from 바카라사이트 rest of 바카라사이트 EU working in 바카라사이트 UK.

Hesa data show that in 2017-18 바카라사이트re were 37,255 academics from o바카라사이트r EU countries at UK universities, up from 35,920 바카라사이트 year before and representing a rising share (17.6 per cent) of all academic staff.

Dr Marini said this suggested that academics from 바카라사이트 rest of 바카라사이트 EU were still taking up posts in 바카라사이트 UK in large numbers even if more were leaving, although it was not clear how many new joiners were recent PhD graduates already in 바카라사이트 UK.

His research suggests that 바카라사이트 main effect of 바카라사이트 Brexit vote has been EU academics in some science subjects not taking up posts because of 바카라사이트 “uncertainty” over 바카라사이트 UK’s access to EU research infrastructure and funding.

“In some aspects, 바카라사이트 delay to 바카라사이트 exit from 바카라사이트 EU is 바카라사이트 problem,” Dr Marini said.

In 바카라사이트 longer term, Dr Marini said, 바카라사이트re could still be a major shift in 바카라사이트 pattern of EU academics working in 바카라사이트 UK, depending on future access to research funding, immigration rules and access to state services such as healthcare.
