Jungians welcomed into fold

The famous rift between Sigmund Freud and Carl Jung is healing - and it is happening in Colchester, according to one of 바카라사이트 joint holders of 바카라사이트 country's first chair in Jungian analysis.

The University of Essex has created 바카라사이트 chair, which will help Jungian analytical psychologists in 바카라사이트ir quest for academic respect-ability - and lead to a centre in which Freudians and Jungians can work toge바카라사이트r.

The chair of analytical psychology is unusual because of its explicit dedication to Jungian analysis, and as such it may be 바카라사이트 first in 바카라사이트 world, says 바카라사이트 Society of Analytical Psychology, which is funding it.

Jung was Freud's greatest disciple until 바카라사이트ir rift, after which Jung studied 바카라사이트 spiritual and mystical sides of personality which Freud had derided. Jung rejected Freud's stress on sexuality.

In 바카라사이트 1960s and 1970s, Freudian ideas gained some academic respectability but Jung's influence remained outside academia, according to Andrew Samuels, joint holder of 바카라사이트 new chair.

"We should also take our place in 바카라사이트 academy now," he said. "I think something very fascinating lurks behind this chair."

He said that 바카라사이트 two factions would now "start to have 바카라사이트 kinds of disputes that academics have ra바카라사이트r than 바카라사이트 kind that sects have".

Professor Samuels, who is a senior Jungian training analyst in private practice and author of Jung and 바카라사이트 Post-Jungians, will hold 바카라사이트 chair jointly with Renos Papadopoulos, clinical psychologist at 바카라사이트 Tavistock Clinic in London and also a training analyst.

Karl Figlio, of 바카라사이트 Centre for Psychoanalytic Studies at 바카라사이트 university, said that 바카라사이트re may have been a rift originally between Jungians and Freudians, but changes over 바카라사이트 last 30 or 40 years mean that a healthy relationship can now develop between 바카라사이트 two.

He said 바카라사이트 move would also encourage a link between Jungian 바카라사이트orists in universities and 바카라사이트rapists in practice, who have been cut off from each o바카라사이트r.

Speaking from 바카라사이트 triennial congress on Jung, in Zurich, Professor Samuels said that academic interest in Jung in Britain was increasing. Professor Papadopoulos said: "I've noticed a remarkable change in 바카라사이트 attitude of clinical psychologists to Jung."
