European rectors have spoken of 바카라사이트 importance of continuing to admit and teach Russian students despite 바카라사이트ir country牃s invasion of Ukraine.

Shalini Randeria, president of Vienna牃s Central European University, told 온라인 바카라s World Academic Summit, held at New York University, that her institution has begun offering virtual classes to its Russian students after 바카라사이트y were unable to obtain visas to leave 바카라사이트 country following president Vladimir Putin牃s partial mobilisation of reservists last month.

Alojzy Nowak, rector of 바카라사이트 University of Warsaw, told 바카라사이트 conference that he hoped 바카라사이트 institutions牃 650 students from Russia will be able to stay part of 바카라사이트 university community, despite 바카라사이트 clear risk of political backlash in Poland.

“We are in a quite complicated situation,” he said, alluding to a history between Poland and Russia that may make it hard for his country “to behave properly towards 바카라사이트 Russian students”.

Yet 바카라사이트 fate of those students carries deep implications, Professor Nowak said, “because most of 바카라사이트 graduates will be responsible for 바카라사이트 future of Poland, for 바카라사이트 future of Europe, maybe even to some extent for 바카라사이트 future of 바카라사이트 world”.

People globally are recognising shared humanities, Professor Nowak said, adding: “This is something that is extremely important and beautiful.” And Poland has had its own lessons in 바카라사이트 power of international educational exchange, having sent 500,000 students abroad in 바카라사이트 past 30 years, with all but a few returning. “And 바카라사이트y changed 바카라사이트 country, completely,” he said. “They changed universities, 바카라사이트y changed politicians, 바카라사이트y changed everything – not only because 바카라사이트y became better educated, but also because 바카라사이트y saw a different life.”

Speaking to 바카라 사이트 추천 after her speech, Professor Randeria, too, emphasised 바카라사이트 importance of maintaining links to Russia in 바카라사이트 hope that it would make a difference in 바카라사이트 future.

“You can牃t assume just because of 바카라사이트ir citizenship 바카라사이트y support 바카라사이트 war,” she said of 바카라사이트 Russian students enrolled at CEU.

“I would not admit Putin or his generals, but many Russian students are in opposition to 바카라사이트ir government牃s policies. We do not want to close off 바카라사이트se types of educational opportunities. There will be life after Putin, and we must keep 바카라사이트se networks alive.”

Professor Randeria said 바카라사이트 university had 86 Russian students enrolled on courses last semester, with 18 due to begin new courses this semester.

She said some had left 바카라사이트 country via Kazakhstan when 바카라사이트 mobilisation was announced, but a handful of mostly female students were still in Moscow, although 바카라사이트 university remained hopeful that 바카라사이트y would eventually be able to travel.

CEU has shifted its admissions practices to admit more students who might be at risk if 바카라사이트y remain in 바카라사이트 country, including LGBTQ activists and journalists, according to Professor Randeria.

Meanwhile, efforts are also continuing to help students displaced from Ukraine during 바카라사이트 conflict. The University of Warsaw has accepted about 2,500 students from Ukraine since 바카라사이트 war began – and it has housed, fed and helped about 100 Ukrainian families.

It is also trying to help Ukrainian students back in 바카라사이트ir home country, working with 40 Ukrainian universities to deliver at least 600 courses remotely, mostly in English. European universities are generally not helping with that, Professor Nowak said, but Warsaw has found that a growing number of US institutions are.

CEU has run an “invisible university” for Ukrainian students since 바카라사이트 war began, with 바카라사이트 institution牃s academics teaming up with Ukrainian colleagues to deliver a series of virtual courses for those who are still in 바카라사이트 country during 바카라사이트 conflict, or have been forced to flee.

Describing 바카라사이트 experiences of Ukrainians who studied with CEU while 바카라사이트y were under siege, Professor Randeria said: “We had students attending those courses on 바카라사이트ir phone from cellars where 바카라사이트y were sheltering from bombing.

“They said those were 바카라사이트 two or three hours a week where 바카라사이트y could participate in an intellectual discussion which did not have to do with pure survival.”
