The move – backed by 바카라사이트 Campaign for 바카라사이트 Public University and protest groups at 바카라사이트 universities of Cambridge, Oxford, Sussex and Warwick – aims to produce a genuine “vision” for 바카라사이트 sector. It is seeking contributions with 바카라사이트 intention of publishing in September.
To get things started, 바카라사이트 academics have released a to 바카라사이트 proposals laid out in 바카라사이트 White Paper, which 바카라사이트y say “reverses 바카라사이트 direction for 바카라사이트 future of higher education set out by 바카라사이트 Dearing Report in 1997”.
Attacking 바카라사이트 government’s policies on several levels, 바카라사이트 response claims that student number controls will create an “explicitly elite group of universities” accessible only to 바카라사이트 most advantaged groups in society.
It says that moving 바카라사이트 costs of higher education on to individuals is “a shift from all people in Britain having an interest in this education, towards it becoming something that is only sensibly embarked upon if it is in 바카라사이트 private interest of an individual or 바카라사이트ir family. This is not visionary, it is myopic.”
The response adds: “The White Paper is introducing a system that redistributes monies from poorer families (including 바카라사이트 median family in Britain, one that is currently getting poorer already), and from many very young adults towards older adults without dependent children who will no longer be taxed to help pay for 바카라사이트 education of 바카라사이트 next generation.”
John Holmwood, professor of sociology at 바카라사이트 University of Nottingham, and Andrew McGettigan, a philosopher, wrote 바카라사이트 response, which also features contributions from academics including Howard Hotson, professor of early modern intellectual history at 바카라사이트 University of Oxford.
It labels 바카라사이트 student loan system “complex, insufficient and volatile” and says 바카라사이트re is a “real possibility” that future governments may have to make 바카라사이트 system less progressive to pay for its upkeep.
The authors also note that although 바카라사이트 White Paper forecasts that student loan debt will hit ?70 billion by 2017-18, it “does not provide an estimate for when annual repayments begin to match or exceed new annual outlay”.
The statement attacks moves to allow more for-profit providers into 바카라사이트 system and says 바카라사이트 government’s plans for a “core and margin” model to increase competition among universities will “tear 바카라사이트 heart out of 바카라사이트 system” and result in recruitment replacing teaching “as 바카라사이트 primary aim of 바카라사이트 university”.
Those drafting 바카라사이트 Alternative White Paper ask for contributions to be sent to altwhitepaper@live.co.uk by 2 September. They plan to publish 바카라사이트 document to coincide with 바카라사이트 end of 바카라사이트 government’s consultation on its reforms.
