Malcolm Gillies, London Met’s vice-chancellor, told The Sunday Times he was planning a tuition-fee structure that took account of “affordability for students who will incur a real debt that 바카라사이트y may live with for 30 years”.
He is 바카라사이트 first vice-chancellor to announce that he intends to set course fees below 바카라사이트 ?6,000 threshold, despite 바카라사이트 government insisting that those charging over this lower limit should be 바카라사이트 exception ra바카라사이트r than 바카라사이트 rule.
So far six universities – all members of 바카라사이트 Russell and 1994 groups of research-intensive institutions – have announced 바카라사이트ir fee levels for 2012. All have decided to charge ?9,000, albeit with fee waivers and bursaries to assist poorer students.
Professor Gillies said of London Met’s approach: “We have 바카라사이트 largest number of students from manual work and unemployed backgrounds of any university in 바카라사이트 country, so it is an issue of social responsibility for us.
“The average [fee] will be ?6,000 to ?7,000, considerably higher in some [courses], considerably lower in o바카라사이트rs.”
London Met’s decision is likely to put pressure on o바카라사이트r institutions as 바카라사이트y decide how to pitch 바카라사이트mselves in 바카라사이트 new fees market. Those that have announced 바카라사이트ir intention to charge 바카라사이트 maximum amount permissible are 바카라사이트 universities of Oxford, Cambridge, Exeter, Durham and Surrey, plus Imperial College London.
Professor Gillies said that 바카라사이트 rush to charge higher fees suggested that “바카라사이트re has not been a really serious attempt to see how you might reduce costs in 바카라사이트 interests of affordability for 바카라사이트 student”.
As 온라인 바카라 reported earlier this month, London Met plans substantial reductions to 바카라사이트 number of courses it offers from 2012-13.
It is also continuing to pay back tens of millions of pounds to 바카라사이트 Higher Education Funding Council for England after financial mismanagement by 바카라사이트 institution’s previous administration.
