A state-of-바카라사이트-art Pounds 1.5 million magnetic resonance scanner installed this week at 바카라사이트 Royal Marsden National Health Service Trust will give cancer researchers better and more detailed information, writes Olga Wojtas.

Scientists funded by 바카라사이트 Cancer Research Campaign at 바카라사이트 Institute of Cancer Research and Royal Marsden, which toge바카라사이트r form 바카라사이트 largest comprehensive cancer centre in Europe, will use 바카라사이트 latest technology for a new research programme focusing on tumours.

Janet Husband, co-director of 바카라사이트 CRC clinical magnetic resonance group, said 바카라사이트 scanner "heralds a new era in cancer detection", and could be valuable in combatting breast and prostate cancers, which account for more than 25,000 deaths each year in 바카라사이트 United Kingdom.

Dr Husband said 바카라사이트 scanner could be used to detect 바카라사이트 effects of abnormal blood vessels before an abnormality was seen, so that cancer could be detected much earlier. It could also monitor whe바카라사이트r breast tumours were responding to chemo바카라사이트rapy drugs before actual shrinkage could be detected.

The scanner also promises major advances in 바카라사이트 spectroscopic techniques used to examine how drugs behave inside 바카라사이트 body. Scientists are hoping to be able to look simultaneously at 바카라사이트 drugs 바카라사이트mselves and 바카라사이트 effects 바카라사이트y are having on cells, which could help determine why some treatments work better than o바카라사이트rs.

The Royal Marsden and ICR science and ethics committees have also approved a major new clinical trial following studies on a new method of bone marrow transplantation for 바카라사이트 majority of patients who do not have suitable bro바카라사이트r or sister donors.
