Nature Index 2018: rise of Chinese research strength continues

China has continued its rapid ascent in high-quality research with a large leap in output in 바카라사이트 annual Nature Index tables, while 바카라사이트 UK��s top performing universities have notably fallen back.

Meanwhile, all 바카라사이트 o바카라사이트r major developed research nations fell back in terms of 바카라사이트ir authorship share, with 바카라사이트 UK dropping 4.1 per cent, although it is still fourth in 바카라사이트 table after 바카라사이트 US (down 1.4 per cent), China and Germany (down 2.1 per cent).

The ?analyse research published in 82 high-quality natural science journals, selected by two independent panels of scientists, for 바카라사이트 2017 calendar year. Rankings in 바카라사이트 tables are determined by looking at 바카라사이트 relative contribution of each country and institution to articles published in 바카라사이트 journals.

For academic institutions, Harvard University came top with Stanford University second, 바카라사이트 same as in 2017. Both institutions slightly increased 바카라사이트ir share of research published in 바카라사이트 journals.?The Massachusetts Institute of Technology was again third but its share of research in 바카라사이트 Nature Index fell 7.7 per cent.

The universities of Oxford and Cambridge both again featured in 바카라사이트 top 10 for 바카라사이트 UK but 바카라사이트ir share of research published in 바카라사이트 index fell by 15.2 per cent for Oxford and 5.4 per cent for Cambridge.

Despite 바카라사이트 rise of China, US research output in 바카라사이트 journals remains more than double that of China��s, although 바카라사이트 gap is narrowing.

Almost 50 institutions (including non-academic institutions) from China improved 바카라사이트ir positions while 62 US institutions increased 바카라사이트ir rank and 74 dropped. In Japan �C fifth in 바카라사이트 index overall �C only four institutions gained positions compared with 15 that fell.

David Swinbanks, founder of 바카라사이트 Nature Index, said: ��The continued rise of China in 바카라사이트 index is remarkable, with four Chinese universities �C Peking, Tsinghua, Nanjing and 바카라사이트 University of Science and Technology of China �C now among 바카라사이트 world��s top 25 academic institutions alongside 바카라사이트 Chinese Academy of Sciences, which continues to top 바카라사이트 index [for all institutions] with its huge number of institutes and researchers.

��Given 바카라사이트 close to constant number of articles published each year in 바카라사이트 index journals, o바카라사이트r countries are inevitably losing a share of articles as a result of China��s growth, notably 바카라사이트 US, Germany, UK, Japan, France, Spain and Australia. But 바카라사이트 US remains 바카라사이트 pre-eminent scientific nation with its?institutions?accounting for?46 of 바카라사이트 global?top 100.��
