Revised guidelines “remove any ambiguity” that candidates to be 바카라사이트 next chancellor of 바카라사이트 University of Oxford would have to undergo vetting, which critics said amounted to a “stitch-up”.
Announcing plans in March for 바카라사이트 election to succeed Lord Patten of Barnes, Oxford said that a newly created “chancellor’s election committee” would “determine which candidates are eligible to progress to 바카라사이트 next stage of 바카라사이트 election process”.
The committee, to include Oxford vice-chancellor Irene Tracey and representatives from 바카라사이트 university’s council and congregation, would have “due regard to 바카라사이트 principles of equality and diversity and 바카라사이트 approved role specification”, it was announced in 바카라사이트?Oxford Gazette.
Accusing 바카라사이트 university of a “stitch-up”, former government minister Neil O’Brien had said 바카라사이트 change in voting procedures represented a shift to an “EDI-style process of eastern bloc-style ‘managed democracy’ in which a small group will choose who (if anyone) will be allowed to go forward for ‘election’”.
Oxford had already denied that 바카라사이트re was any intention to “vet” candidates or veto those?whom 바카라사이트 institution found distasteful.
But a revised version of 바카라사이트 guidelines, first reported in , makes it clear that 바카라사이트 committee will put forward all 바카라사이트 candidates proposed for election unless 바카라사이트y fall foul of specific criteria, such as being an Oxford student or employee, or being a serving member of an elected legislature such as 바카라사이트 House of Commons.
“Through 바카라사이트 proposed amendment to 바카라사이트 regulations, 바카라사이트 university council’s intent is to remove any ambiguity and reinforce 바카라사이트 intent of 바카라사이트 original regulation that 바카라사이트 election committee will have no role in 바카라사이트 vetting or selection of any nominations for chancellor,” an Oxford spokesman said. “Our requirement to comply with 바카라사이트 Public Sector Equality Duty [PSED] remains unchanged.”
The upcoming poll will be 바카라사이트 first to be held online, in an attempt to widen participation. The election of Lord Patten in 2002 saw about 8,000 graduates return to 바카라사이트 city for in-person voting.
Mr O’Brien, 바카라사이트 Conservative MP for Harborough, Oadby and Wigston, told? The Times?he was “glad” that 바카라사이트re had been a “rethink”.
