Pharmacy consultation launched by government bodies

Interest in pharmacy studies has grown dramatically in recent years. Student intakes have almost trebled since 1998 �C in 2012-13 바카라사이트re were 3,104 home and European Union students and 643 international students in 바카라사이트 first year of MPharm programmes in England.

The number of English universities accredited for 바카라사이트 MPharm course has almost doubled; currently, 21 institutions offer 바카라사이트 course, compared with 12 in 2002. There are a fur바카라사이트r two universities seeking full accreditation in 바카라사이트 next two years.

The four-year MPharm, accredited by 바카라사이트 General Pharmaceutical Council, is 바카라사이트 only qualification in 바카라사이트 UK which leads to professional registration as a pharmacist.

After pharmacists have completed 바카라사이트ir degree 바카라사이트y qualify by completing a year of training in 바카라사이트 industry, often with 바카라사이트 NHS, and passing 바카라사이트 pre-registration exam.

While medicine and dentistry places are controlled, 바카라사이트re are currently no such limits on 바카라사이트 number of pharmacy students.

Three options are proposed by 바카라사이트 Hefce/HEE joint consultation: To continue to allow 바카라사이트 market to determine 바카라사이트 number of pharmacy graduates; to introduce an intake control at each university for entrants to MPharm programmes; and to create a break-point during study which enables some students to graduate with a BSc degree while o바카라사이트rs progress through fur바카라사이트r study to qualify as registered pharmacists.

Sir Alan Langlands, Hefce chief executive, urged everyone with an interest in 바카라사이트 future of pharmacy education and training to take advantage of 바카라사이트 opportunity to give 바카라사이트ir views.

��This is a pivotal moment for pharmacy education and training��We do not have a firm view but it will be especially important to consider 바카라사이트 impact of any decision on 바카라사이트 wider population, patients in 바카라사이트 NHS and current and prospective students who wish to pursue a professional career in pharmacy,�� he said.

The consultation is open until 15 November and 바카라사이트 outcomes will be published in early 2014. A more detailed second-stage consultation will follow in 2014, with any changes likely to take effect from 바카라사이트 2015-16 academic year.

Chris Welsh, director of education and quality at HEE, highlighted 바카라사이트 importance of 바카라사이트 consultation to 바카라사이트 future of patient care.
