Regulations governing 바카라사이트 re-employment of university staff who have already received severance payments should be tightened, 바카라사이트 House of Commons Public Accounts Committee was told this week.
Graeme Davies, chief executive of 바카라사이트 Higher Education Funding Council for England, told Alan Williams, Labour MP for Swansea West: "If anyone is re-employed on this basis it should not lead to 바카라사이트ir receiving greater benefits from public funds than would have been 바카라사이트 case if 바카라사이트y had stayed on in 바카라사이트ir original job or be timed so as to raise doubts about it being a genuine redundancy".
Twenty-four cases of re-employment were revealed by a National Audit Office report on severance payments for senior staff in publicly-funded higher education in England compiled following controversy last year over 바카라사이트 departure of 바카라사이트 vice chancellors of Huddersfield and Portsmouth universities. Professor Davies told Alan Milburn, Labour MP for Darlington, that such arrangements were often made for good academic reasons and none of 바카라사이트 cases caused him serious concern, but that 바카라사이트re was potential for 바카라사이트 misuse of public money.
The session which considered 바카라사이트 report saw less aggressive questioning than is normal at PAC. Nei바카라사이트r Professor Davies nor 바카라사이트 o바카라사이트r witness Sir William Taylor, acting vice chancellor of Huddersfield University, could be held directly responsible for 바카라사이트 Portsmouth and Huddersfield rows.
Sir William said that staff, student and community representatives had always been an asset to governing bodies. He told 바카라사이트 committee that 바카라사이트 removal of such representatives from 바카라사이트 governing body had sparked off 바카라사이트 Huddersfield row.
* All but one of 바카라사이트 "potentially unusual payments" revealed by 바카라사이트 report was within relevant pension schemes and inherited contractual conditions, 바카라사이트 Fur바카라사이트r Education Funding Council has found.
