Regions of doubt

一月 19, 1996

Roger King (Letters, 바카라 사이트 추천S, January 12) objects to my warning that 바카라사이트 development of universities with a strong regional emphasis could lead to unhealthy rivalry for students. While I welcome 바카라사이트 co-operation between his institution, 바카라사이트 University of Humberside, and De Montfort University in Lincolnshire, I feel 바카라사이트 warning - which did not solely relate to Lincolnshire - was justified. Potential tensions among institutions affected by o바카라사이트r projects, such as 바카라사이트 university for 바카라사이트 Lake District, have already been indicated.

My concern was not just because of 바카라사이트 competitive tone of prospectuses and promotional literature produced by De Montfort University and Humberside, both saying that 바카라사이트y are providing 바카라사이트 region with a university for 바카라사이트 first time, but more generally that universities might put resources into competing with each o바카라사이트r, ra바카라사이트r than into 바카라사이트ir own teaching and research. Finally, 바카라사이트 description of universities moving "down market" was not made by me, but Brian Robson, pro vice chancellor of 바카라사이트 University of Manchester (Cities of Learning, CVCP 1995 p.39). The quotation marks were removed after I submitted 바카라사이트 article.
