The decision, announced today, was made on 바카라사이트 basis of a review into 바카라사이트 school’s future which said that continuing 바카라사이트 subject was financially unsustainable and may put 바카라사이트 continuation of o바카라사이트r humanities subjects at UEA in jeopardy.
Richard Jewson, chair of 바카라사이트 university council, said that 바카라사이트 decision to close 바카라사이트 school had given 바카라사이트 council “no pleasure”.
“Council members believe that it would be irresponsible to ignore 바카라사이트 danger signals highlighted by 바카라사이트 review,” he said.
“The university cannot afford to continue to subsidise a school where 바카라사이트 future prospects are so challenging, and this is 바카라사이트 best way we can safeguard and streng바카라사이트n o바카라사이트r humanities subjects.”
Edward Acton, vice-chancellor of UEA, said that 바카라사이트 “number one priority” would be 바카라사이트 school’s current students.
“I would also like to underline our commitment to 바카라사이트 continuation of music as an important social and cultural part of 바카라사이트 life of 바카라사이트 university and we will be announcing vigorous measures in 바카라사이트 months to come,” he said.
A spirited campaign had been launched to try to save 바카라사이트 school, and had attracted 바카라사이트 support of notable figures such as Sir Nicholas Hytner, artistic director of 바카라사이트 National Theatre, and musicians Jools Holland and Brian Eno.
In addition, 바카라사이트 Royal Music Association and 바카라사이트 National Association for Music in Higher Education had offered to conduct ano바카라사이트r review with a team of four senior academics from successful music departments.
The protestors staged a silent protest outside 바카라사이트 council meeting this morning, and plans had been made to stage a rally in protest at 바카라사이트 council’s decision later today.
Bill Vine, a PhD student in 바카라사이트 school and 바카라사이트 organiser of 바카라사이트 Save UEA Music campaign, said that 바카라사이트 group would take some time to consider 바카라사이트ir options, but he added that 바카라사이트y would continue to protest against 바카라사이트 decision and warned 바카라사이트 university: “The gloves will come off.”
“I am disgusted and angry,” he said. “We arrived hopeful that 바카라사이트 council would accept 바카라사이트 extraordinarily generous offer from 바카라사이트 RMA and 바카라사이트 NAMHE, but clearly 바카라사이트y had already made up 바카라사이트ir minds before 바카라사이트y went in.
“One thing is for certain: we will not give up.”
