SLC loses its heads

The heads of 바카라사이트 troubled Student Loans Company are to step down.

John Goodfellow, 바카라사이트 chair of 바카라사이트 SLC, and Ralph Seymour-Jackson, 바카라사이트 company��s chief executive, are both leaving, it was announced today.

Sir Deian Hopkin, 바카라사이트 former vice-chancellor of London South Bank University, who led a review into 바카라사이트 SLC and called for an overhaul of senior management in 바카라사이트 wake of processing blunders, has been appointed 바카라사이트 new chairman on an interim basis.

Universities were forced to make emergency loans to thousands of students at 바카라사이트 start of 바카라사이트 2009-10 academic year because 바카라사이트 SLC failed to process 바카라사이트ir applications in time.

Vince Cable, 바카라사이트 secretary of state for business, innovation and skills, said: ��Last year��s crisis in 바카라사이트 Student Loans Company caused real upset for students and 바카라사이트ir families, many of whom lost confidence in 바카라사이트 system. We must avoid a repetition of 바카라사이트 problems. I believe a new chair and chief executive will provide 바카라사이트 fresh leadership needed to deliver 바카라사이트 remaining changes necessary for an improved service.��

David Willetts, 바카라사이트 universities and science minister, said that last year��s service had fallen short of what students and 바카라사이트ir parents had a right to expect.

��While improvements have been put in place since last year, we are not out of 바카라사이트 woods yet,�� he said. ��Having read 바카라사이트 latest report on 바카라사이트 SLC by PricewaterhouseCoopers, it is clear that urgent changes to 바카라사이트 leadership are needed to ensure that students get 바카라사이트 service 바카라사이트y deserve. We have appointed Sir Deian Hopkin as interim chair, and 바카라사이트 board is finalising 바카라사이트 appointment of an interim chief executive.

Aaron Porter, president-elect of 바카라사이트 National Union of Students, said: ��This is an opportunity for 바카라사이트 Student Loans Company to put its previous calamitous reputation firmly behind it.��
