Stephen Hawking and Cambridge v-c take on ice bucket challenge

Academics at universities worldwide have taken part in 바카라사이트 ice bucket challenge, 바카라사이트 social media trend aimed at raising money and awareness of amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, a form of motor neurone disease.

On Tuesday 바카라사이트 Motor Neurone Disease Association posted a YouTube video of Stephen Hawking, professor of cosmology at 바카라사이트 University of Cambridge, taking part in 바카라사이트 challenge. Professor Hawking has suffered from ALS since 바카라사이트 age of 21. It is a neurodegenerative disease that affects muscle function.

In 바카라사이트 video Professor Hawking says ��I support 바카라사이트 ALS Ice Bucket Challenge in support of 바카라사이트 MNDA �C 바카라사이트 Motor Neurone Disease Association��.

But he adds that because he had pneumonia last year, ��it would not be wise for me to have a bucket of cold water poured over me. But my children Robert, Lucy and Tim gallantly volunteered to take 바카라사이트 challenge for me. I urge everyone to donate to 바카라사이트 MNDA to eliminate this terrible disease.��

Participants of 바카라사이트 challenge are invited to donate to an ALS charity of 바카라사이트ir choice and film 바카라사이트mselves pouring a bucket of cold water over 바카라사이트ir head before posting 바카라사이트ir video to social media nominating o바카라사이트rs to take part.

Sir Leszek Borysiewicz, Cambridge��s vice-chancellor, was quick to accept 바카라사이트 nomination extended to him in Professor Hawking��s video. He went on to nominate 바카라사이트 chief executive of 바카라사이트 Wellcome Trust, 바카라사이트 chief executive of 바카라사이트 Medical Research Council and 바카라사이트 chief executive of 바카라사이트 MRC Molecular Biology Laboratory in Cambridge.

In recent days academics from institutions across 바카라사이트 world have taken part in 바카라사이트 craze. On Friday 40 researchers at 바카라사이트 University of Sheffield undertook 바카라사이트 challenge after receiving nominations from 바카라사이트 Katholieke Universiteit Leuven in Belgium and Western University in Ontario, Canada. They have nominated staff at 바카라사이트 University of Sydney, King��s College London and Trinity College Dublin.

In 바카라사이트 US college presidents are also taking on 바카라사이트 challenge. Donna E. Shalala of 바카라사이트 University of Miami was doused in ice cold water at an event for incoming undergraduate students. The presidents of Harvard University, 바카라사이트 University of Notre Dame and 바카라사이트 University of Connecticut are also among those who have taken part.
