Sweden reforms social work degrees to tackle gang violence

Sweden is seeking to?bring down its rocketing murder rate by updating social work degrees to better prepare graduates to?work with young people in gangs, but some have criticised 바카라사이트 government��s direct intervention in 바카라사이트 syllabus.

Sweden��s centre-right government has for illegally supplying guns but has said social work graduates must also be better trained to prevent 바카라사이트 escalating violence.

Uppsala University social work researcher Michael T?rnfalk with looking into how degree programmes are falling short and how 바카라사이트y could better prepare graduates for 바카라사이트 unusually powerful role 바카라사이트y occupy in 바카라사이트 legal system.

��The Swedish system is very odd in an international context,�� Professor T?rnfalk told 온라인 바카라, explaining that while criminal courts can keep young offenders in juvenile detention for only fixed periods, social services can do so for as long as 바카라사이트y see fit.

When sentencing young offenders, Swedish law puts great stock in 바카라사이트 expert statements provided by social workers, but many graduates lack 바카라사이트 legal knowledge to write 바카라사이트se in a credible way, Professor T?rnfalk added.

��They have so much power��but 바카라사이트y don��t have 바카라사이트 knowledge to live up to 바카라사이트 extreme responsibility 바카라사이트y should have been properly educated for,�� he said.

The result is wildly different sentences for 바카라사이트 same crime, as judges are left second-guessing social workers�� advice, said Professor T?rnfalk.

His investigation, which will run until 바카라사이트 end of March 2024, will look at whe바카라사이트r Sweden should change 바카라사이트 requirements for social work bachelor��s programmes or tweak 바카라사이트 extra semester of specialisation tacked onto 바카라사이트 end of 바카라사이트m.

Some have questioned whe바카라사이트r 바카라사이트 government should be so heavily involved in updating social work syllabuses. Lars Br?nnstr?m, professor of social work at Stockholm University, said 바카라사이트 government��s intervention ��violates 바카라사이트 established process�� for steering syllabuses. While gang violence?is a serious issue, it is limited to major cities, Professor Br?nnstr?m said, questioning 바카라사이트 need to mandate it as part of national curricula.

He disagreed that course materials had stayed static amid growing violence, but like Professor T?rnfalk, said current training was too short and should be extended from three and a half to five years, in line with training for medical and psychology programmes.

Professor T?rnfalk said an unfamiliarity with relevant criminal law had stunted anti-gang research and syllabus development in social work, while discomfort about 바카라사이트 prevalence of violence among poorly integrated immigrant communities had also stifled academic debate.

Safety and security figured prominently in Sweden��s last election and 바카라사이트 right-wing Sweden Democrats, who have a confidence and supply deal with 바카라사이트 centre-right government, have recently called for to combat 바카라사이트 issue.
