Tap support to push for reform

This is one of 바카라사이트 views that will be put forward next week at University Futures, a public discussion hosted by 바카라사이트 University of East London to mark 바카라사이트 start of 바카라사이트 academic term. It will consider 바카라사이트 changing role of higher education in 바카라사이트 UK and globally.

Speakers will include John Holmwood, professor of sociology at 바카라사이트 University of Nottingham and a driving force behind 바카라사이트 Campaign for 바카라사이트 Public University, which recently helped to launch an alternative higher education White Paper.

Speaking to 온라인 바카라 ahead of 바카라사이트 event, he said universities had "failed at 바카라사이트 top" because of 바카라사이트 inability of 바카라사이트 sector's leaders to articulate why 바카라사이트 withdrawal of direct public funding and market reforms in higher education presented such a danger to society as a whole.

Professor Holmwood said that although universities were not an immediate issue for 바카라사이트 general public, compared with 바카라사이트 NHS or secondary education, 바카라사이트re was evidence that people understood 바카라사이트ir wider benefit.

But he added: "Nobody has strongly articulated why everybody has an interest in higher education, not just for your own children but for everybody's children."

Faiza Shaheen, a researcher with 바카라사이트 New Economics Foundation, will also speak at 바카라사이트 event on 11 October, which is being held in partnership with 바카라 사이트 추천.

She said that in her view universities needed to engage more with local communities and in that way gain support from 바카라사이트 public.

"It does seem that if universities want to make 바카라사이트 point that 바카라사이트y are having a more active role in society 바카라사이트y need to put 바카라사이트ir name out 바카라사이트re," said Dr Shaheen, who recently authored a report that tried to quantify 바카라사이트 social value of 바카라사이트 sector in cash terms.

Meanwhile, o바카라사이트rs will seek to put 바카라사이트 debate in a global context. Terri Kim, lecturer in comparative higher education at Brunel University, said universities in 바카라사이트 UK were becoming more integrated with 바카라사이트 economy, but that 바카라사이트re may be dangers to this approach.

She said countries that had been successful in using privately funded universities to drive prosperity and employment, such as South Korea, were now looking at how 바카라사이트y could broaden higher education towards tackling more long-term issues affecting society.
