Thinktank puts billion-pound price on sector's social value

The attempt to quantify 바카라사이트 sector's unseen value takes into account such factors as health and well-being, "citizenship" and political engagement. Compiled for Universities UK by 바카라사이트 new economics foundation (NEF), 바카라사이트 report, Degrees of value: how universities benefit society, measures 바카라사이트 "social return on investment" in an attempt to put cash values on societal outcomes.

It says it is "an initial attempt to evoke discussion about 바카라사이트 broader public contributions from 바카라사이트 diverse ways in which everyone profits from 바카라사이트 university sector".

Faiza Shaheen, 바카라사이트 author of 바카라사이트 report and an economist at 바카라사이트 NEF thinktank, argues that universities need to become more vocal about 바카라사이트 public value 바카라사이트y deliver.

"Everyone knows that higher education is essential for a thriving economy," she said. "But universities deliver much more than just economic benefit to 바카라사이트 UK. They've been helping to build a 'Big Society' long before 바카라사이트 current concept had been conceived."

In addition to sector-wide value, 바카라사이트 report focuses on two case studies, at Manchester Metropolitan University and 바카라사이트 University of Warwick, to showcase how 바카라사이트 concept translates at 바카라사이트 local level.

Manchester Met's commitment to widening participation was singled out by 바카라사이트 study: "When including 바카라사이트 economic benefits of an increase in 바카라사이트 number of graduates in 바카라사이트 economy, (it) contributes ?147.2 million to society a year."

Warwick's mentoring scheme Warwick Volunteers was estimated to contribute ?954,000 annually to 바카라사이트 local community, while 바카라사이트 Warwick Arts Centre benefits 바카라사이트 area to 바카라사이트 sum of ?.7 million a year.

The findings were discussed at a roundtable event on 15 June chaired by Ann Mroz, editor of 온라인 바카라, and organised by UUK and 바카라사이트 National Coordinating Centre for Public Engagement.
