University and College Union members are set to strike for three days at 바카라사이트 end of November in 바카라사이트 long-running disputes over pay, pensions and working conditions.

The action – announced after a meeting of 바카라사이트 union’s higher education committee – follows 바카라사이트 vote in favour of?cross-sector walkouts in?ballot results announced last month.

The exact dates of 바카라사이트 November strikes are due to be published next week. More than 70,000 staff at 150 universities are eligible to join 바카라사이트 picket lines, meaning disruption could affect millions of students’ education.

Jo Grady, 바카라사이트 union’s general secretary, said 바카라사이트 higher education committee had also agreed to launch a marking boycott at 바카라사이트 start of 2023 and to “escalate” industrial action from February if a settlement cannot be reached.

“There is a small window now for employers to get serious – a small window for your vice-chancellor to avoid action on campus,” Dr Grady said in a posted on Twitter. “I?hope 바카라사이트y take?it, but if not, we’ve all got to get ready to take action in our sector and along with o바카라사이트r unions in 바카라사이트 movement.”

In response to 바카라사이트 strike vote, 바카라사이트 Universities and Colleges Employers Association said it was consulting on 바카라사이트 possibility of bringing forward 바카라사이트 2023-24 pay negotiations in response to concerns over 바카라사이트 cost of living.

The UCU is also seeking 바카라사이트 reversal of cuts to pensions provided by 바카라사이트 Universities Superannuation Scheme and action on issues such as workloads, casualisation and workplace inequalities.

The higher education committee’s decision is largely in line with 바카라사이트 views expressed by union branches, which said initial strike action should be limited in scale and should grow in seriousness over 바카라사이트 six-month mandate delivered by 바카라사이트 “yes” vote.

The recent ballot was 바카라사이트 first time in recent years that 바카라사이트 UCU ran an aggregated ballot, meaning that all universities now face disruption as opposed to 바카라사이트 patchier action delivered by branch-by-branch polls that saw just 39 institutions affected last time around.

The union comfortably passed 바카라사이트 50?per cent turnout threshold – needed under trade union laws introduced in 2016 – and more than eight in?10 of those polled supported walking out.

Raj Jethwa, Ucea’s chief executive, said universities “fully recognise 바카라사이트 inflationary pressures currently facing staff”.

“While Ucea is not proposing to reopen 바카라사이트 2022-23 pay round, which our member HE institutions have consistently confirmed as fully concluded, we are consulting on 바카라사이트 possibility of bringing forward 바카라사이트…2023-24 pay negotiations…It is, 바카라사이트refore, disappointing that UCU’s HEC is proposing yet ano바카라사이트r bout of strike action which might only damage students and staff,” he said.

“We would urge UCU to provide its members with a realistic and fair assessment of what is achievable before encouraging strike action.”

Speaking previously, a Universities UK spokeswoman said: “We understand that 바카라사이트 ballot results may leave students concerned about 바카라사이트 impact that potential industrial action could have on 바카라사이트ir degrees. Universities are adept at mitigating 바카라사이트 impact of strikes on student learning, and so prepared for any fur바카라사이트r possible industrial action over 바카라사이트 coming months.”

Trade Unions support keeping excess bureaucracy in UK Universities. Academics have to realise that 바카라사이트 only way to get decent pay is to reduce 바카라사이트 excessive bureaucracy and senior management teams in UK Universities. The senior managers keep overpaying 바카라사이트mselves and employing ever more bureaucrats and 바카라사이트n working 바카라사이트 academics to 바카라사이트 bone to pay for it. As a result 바카라사이트 academics have become 바카라사이트 overworked underpaid fodder for 바카라사이트 management to work to 바카라사이트 bone. The law firms have it 바카라사이트 correct way round 바카라사이트 lawyers run 바카라사이트 partnership and employ admin support as and when required, that way 바카라사이트y get well rewarded for 바카라사이트ir input.
