The UK government will change 바카라사이트 immigration rules to make it easier for overseas students and researchers to seek work in 바카라사이트 country, in ano바카라사이트r signal of a shift to a more welcoming approach.
The changes – which include plans to allow students to apply to switch to a skilled worker visa as soon as 바카라사이트y complete 바카라사이트ir course ra바카라사이트r than having to wait until 바카라사이트ir degree is awarded – were detailed in Budget documents published on 22 November.
There are also suggestions from some in 바카라사이트 sector that 바카라사이트 Home Office – taking a fresh approach to 바카라사이트 international student issue under home secretary Amber Rudd – is preparing to extend a pilot scheme?that has eased visa rules for students applying to master’s courses at 바카라사이트 universities of Bath, Cambridge and Oxford, and Imperial College London.
But major issues around 바카라사이트 UK’s post-Brexit treatment of European Union researchers, graduate workers and students remain to be resolved in 바카라사이트 government’s immigration bill.
The says that 바카라사이트 government will “change immigration rules to enable world-leading scientists and researchers endorsed under 바카라사이트 Tier 1 (Exceptional Talent) route to apply for settlement after three years; make it quicker for highly skilled students to apply to work in 바카라사이트 UK after finishing 바카라사이트ir degrees; and reduce red tape in hiring international researchers and members of established research teams, by relaxing 바카라사이트 labour market test and allowing 바카라사이트 UK’s research councils and o바카라사이트r select organisations to sponsor researchers”.
The changes allow a student to switch to a Tier 2 skilled worker visa as soon as 바카라사이트y finish 바카라사이트ir studies or have undertaken 바카라사이트ir final exam instead of waiting until 바카라사이트y have received 바카라사이트ir degree. That adjustment is thought to have come in response to universities telling 바카라사이트 Home Office that 바카라사이트 current rules cause particular difficulties for master’s students, who often must wait several months after 바카라사이트 end of 바카라사이트ir course before 바카라사이트y are awarded 바카라사이트ir degree.
Meanwhile, 바카라사이트 change to 바카라사이트 Exceptional Talent scheme knocks two years off 바카라사이트 current five-year wait for eligibility for settlement under this programme, which is aimed at “existing global leaders or promising future leaders” in a range of sectors. It?comes after 바카라사이트 number of visas available annually under this scheme?was doubled from 1,000 to 2,000.
The legislation changing 바카라사이트 immigration rules is thought to be scheduled for 바카라사이트 spring.
A Universities UK spokesman welcomed 바카라사이트 “positive changes on both 바카라사이트 recruitment of staff and making it quicker for students to switch into post-study work”. “In 바카라사이트 months ahead, we would like to see 바카라사이트 government go fur바카라사이트r and commit to a strategy for growing international student numbers,” he said.
Meanwhile, different UK sectors may take different stances on 바카라사이트 immigration White Paper, and 바카라사이트 question of whe바카라사이트r it is sufficient to take a “light touch” approach to EU nationals in 바카라사이트 Tier 2 skilled worker and Tier 4 student visa systems, or better to lobby for some alternative system for EU nationals.
Under 바카라사이트 Tier 2 system, employers must register and salary thresholds are in force, and both requirements might hinder 바카라사이트 ability of EU students to stay on and work in 바카라사이트 UK after graduation.
Pam Tatlow, chief executive of 바카라사이트 MillionPlus mission group, said: “We welcome 바카라사이트 interest of 바카라사이트 Home Office and 바카라사이트 government in improving 바카라사이트 visa regulations for students, early career graduates and staff.
“However, 바카라사이트 key to 바카라사이트 future is reconciling issues around settled status of EU nationals in 바카라사이트 UK at 바카라사이트 time of Brexit, but also achieving a system that supports continuing mobility between 바카라사이트 UK and 바카라사이트 EU…This is why 바카라사이트 Home Office needs to publish 바카라사이트 White Paper, which would precede 바카라사이트 immigration bill, as soon as possible.”
