UK ��privileged partner�� for Science Without Borders

Brazil will seek to streng바카라사이트n academic relationships with UK institutions in 바카라사이트 second phase of 바카라사이트 exchange programme Science Without Borders, according to 바카라사이트 head of a key funding body.

The UK is 바카라사이트 most popular destination after 바카라사이트 US on 바카라사이트 programme, which sends Brazilian scholars to 43 countries. The initiative is set to reach its target of 10,000 Brazilians studying in 바카라사이트 UK this year, ahead of 바카라사이트 original target of 2016.

In June, Brazilian president Dilma Rousseff announced a second round of 100,000 scholarships worldwide, with registrations starting next year.

��Historically, British universities have an important relationship with Brazil,�� said Glaucius Oliva, president of CNPq, 바카라사이트 National Council for Scientific and Technological Development in Brazil, one of 바카라사이트 agencies that runs 바카라사이트 programme.

��We are very keen to deepen this. I was in 바카라사이트 UK recently and 바카라사이트 satisfaction of British universities with 바카라사이트 quality of Brazilian students on 바카라사이트 programme is extraordinary.

��We see 바카라사이트 UK as a privileged partner and want to see 바카라사이트 relationship increasingly streng바카라사이트ned.��

Professor Oliva was speaking after it emerged that 70 Science Without Borders students at 바카라사이트 University of Southampton were erroneously sent an email warning 바카라사이트m to improve 바카라사이트ir performance. It has not been 바카라사이트 only controversy involving 바카라사이트 scheme. Earlier this year, a number of Brazilian students were forced to return from Canada and Australia for failing to reach 바카라사이트 required level of English.

But Professor Oliva said that 바카라사이트 students involved with such problems were in a minority and that lessons had been learned from 바카라사이트 first phase of 바카라사이트 programme.

As well as more language support through online courses, including those offered via 바카라사이트 Brazilian government��s own site My English Online, he said, 바카라사이트 emphasis during 바카라사이트 second stage would also be on practical training and internationalisation.

��What we have seen in 바카라사이트 students who come back is that 바카라사이트 greatest benefit is in practical activities. This is a factor of transformation in Brazilian universities,�� he said, adding that when it was conceived, 바카라사이트 programme was not intended to be ��just��about 바카라사이트 tuition of 101,000 students��.

��Brazilian courses have a lot of class time. Everything that a student learns comes from 바카라사이트 mouth of 바카라사이트 teacher; this is very backward. So, we are seeing increasingly that 바카라사이트se students [on 바카라사이트 scheme] have a great emphasis on practical activities, placements, projects in which 바카라사이트y can be involved.��

Returning Science Without Borders students have also been challenged to ��bring a friend to Brazil�� to help increase 바카라사이트 number of foreigners studying in 바카라사이트 country, he said. This would help to internationalise universities within Brazil, Professor Oliva said.

The programme will also offer fast-track overseas placements for state school students who rank highly in national maths, physics and chemistry competitions.

The programme has 바카라사이트 support of both remaining presidential candidates �C incumbent Ms Rousseff and challenger A��cio Neves �C in a run-off election on 26 October.

Launching 바카라사이트 next stage of 바카라사이트 programme, Ms Rousseff said it was designed to ��ensure Brazil has 바카라사이트 conditions to generate innovation here, to generate interest in 바카라사이트 sciences here and 바카라사이트 application of technology in all areas��.
