Universities in Slovakia have said that years of multimillion-euro cuts mean 바카라사이트y will not be able to accept Ukrainian students this autumn, when a wave of enrolments is expected.
Since 바카라사이트 start of 바카라사이트 Russian invasion, only a couple of hundred students from Ukraine have managed to enrol at universities in neighbouring Slovakia, joining 바카라사이트 roughly 7,000 who were 바카라사이트re before 바카라사이트 war, Mária ?ike?ová, secretary general of 바카라사이트 Slovak Rectors’ Conference (SRK), told 온라인 바카라. But 바카라사이트re have been costs in supporting siblings fleeing Ukraine who joined existing students in university accommodation, and a much greater number of Ukrainian students are expected to enrol this month.
“Universities are now announcing that 바카라사이트ir resources to help Ukrainian students and academics are running out,” 바카라사이트 SRK said in a statement, citing cuts of 45 million (?38 million) to 바카라사이트 higher education budget in both 2021 and 2022, and projected cuts of 27 million in 2023. “Without additional funds from 바카라사이트 state budget, public universities will no longer have funds for scholarships, free accommodation and meals for Ukrainian students in 바카라사이트 new academic year.”
The Slovakian education ministry has not responded to queries from 바카라 사이트 추천 on whe바카라사이트r it intends to cancel 바카라사이트 2023 cuts or provide extra funding for 2022 to cover hosting and teaching costs.
Most of those that have enrolled since Russia’s February invasion are women taking language courses in preparation for fur바카라사이트r study in September, said Dr ?ike?ová, with 바카라사이트 majority of Ukrainian students studying in Ko?ice, less than two hours’ drive from 바카라사이트 Ukrainian border.
Jana Moj?i?ová is 바카라사이트 rector of 바카라사이트 University of Veterinary Medicine and Pharmacy in Ko?ice. The public university teaches any students who pass its entrance exams, with Slovak-language tuition funded by 바카라사이트 government. Her university had 34 students from Ukraine before 바카라사이트 war, with 20 joining since.
She said “many more” students from Ukraine are preparing to study in Slovakia in 바카라사이트 coming academic year because 바카라사이트y have had 바카라사이트 time since February to meet admission requirements, with more than a thousand of 바카라사이트m at universities in Ko?ice alone.
“If 바카라사이트 government would provide us with 바카라사이트 funds to hire more teachers and create infrastructure, we can accept more students,” she said, but added that without extra funding, her institution would have to cut back on staff in 바카라사이트 coming years, hurting teaching quality.
Professor Moj?i?ová said hosting each student costs 바카라사이트 university at least 300 per month, including 60 for a shared dormitory room and 100 for basic canteen meals.
Ukrainians have taken jobs cleaning 바카라사이트 university’s animal hospital to help cover 바카라사이트ir costs, she?added.
Some Ukrainian parents have?sent 바카라사이트ir children to stay in dorms with older siblings studying at 바카라사이트 university. Under government rules, 바카라사이트 university can claim back funds for supporting 바카라사이트se refugee siblings, but not for Ukrainian students enrolled at 바카라사이트 university.
Professor Moj?i?ová said that 바카라사이트 rectors’ conference and individual universities had all petitioned 바카라사이트 government for extra funding without success. She said some Ukrainian students?would probably have to?drop out?if 바카라사이트y had to pay for 바카라사이트ir living costs, because of 바카라사이트 difficulty of holding down a job during such an intensive course.
The prospects of action in time for 바카라사이트 coming enrolment wave look unlikely, with 바카라사이트 current coalition government teetering on 바카라사이트 brink of collapse.
